Title: Fender "Telemaster"
Post by: Andrew W on November 02, 2009, 01:58:14 PM
I just came across these whilst thumbing through Vintage Guitar magazine and I think it's kinda awesome.  Apparently they're only being made for Make 'n' Music in the States so they're as rare as hen's teeth (and pricey too).  But I think it's a great idea.

Here's the blurb and the eyeball melting pricetag (http://www.makenmusic.com/product.cfm?prodID=1166&catID=1).

I suspect this guitar might polarise opinion somewhat but I suppose it's just Fender's own take on what Fano are doing.

I think they're awesome!  :D

I was going to make one from Warmoth parts, but they never make hardtail Jazzmaster bodies except by custom order, so it would have been annoyingly expensive.  Still may do it some day.

Yeah, good point, I'd forgotten about USACG!

I have seen the Telemaster bodies on their site and they seem to be a pretty permanent fixture on their "web specials" page now, so maybe they're the place to go.  The bodies do come in pretty heavy unfortunately, around the 5 pound mark.

they have a link to a guy who makes pickguards for them on their too.
they look pretty tasty.

PhillyQ has mentioned those before.  I think they're fanastic, but how much????!!!!!  :o

I'd also just take an Esquire version, without the hidden pickups...

esquire version would be good.
personally id like a little humbucker in there and split coil options etc on the tele switch.

man, i actually really want one now, for a new musical project.

The Jazzmaster bodies in the Showcase are always routed for a trem, either the standard JM style or a Strat/Floyd type.  And you know me, I'd always rather go Showcase than custom!

Yes, that's why I used "it can be get" instead of "you can get it"

Doesn't seem to be much evidence of "polarized opinion" so far...

So:

Er... not quite my cup of tea

Not my cup of tea either.

Is that confirmed polarisation? I think it could be.

Would you call "I think that it looks awful!" a polarised opinion?

Not my cup of tea either.

Wait until you see Frusciante play one, then I bet you'll change your mind!

Theres threads about these on the TDPRI and also on the Squier 51 forum. Theres a guy on there piecing them together using USACG bodies and they look stunning to me.

I had thought of going the more budget route, by getting hold of one of those Jazzmaster style guitars that the likes of Stagg and Wesley do, taking out the p/ups, slapping a tele style neck and bridge on and seeing what happens. I would have to use a pickguard though.

The Jazzmaster - Jag body shape is weird; it looks bland and dated as a Jazzmaster but can look really cool when you do other things with it. I think that the Telemaster idea looks really neat; I might even make one. I've made quite a few Jag style guitars with 25.5" Strat style necks, TOM bridge and tail piece and a BKP MQ P90 and a Nail Bomb. It's a style I wouldn't have crossed the road to look at a few years ago but I now have one Myself. Pic attached.

Check the guitarfetish site this friday (the 6th).

They are going to launch some new Xaviere guitars.

One is a Telemaster and one is a Jazzmaster with P90's.

Some sneak peaks.

Nice Jazzcaster, I suppose I could swap my previously spec'd P90 for a mini-humbucker

Not sure about blue but there will be surf green.

Both around the $200.- mark.

Don't curse me for posting this. I already cursed the guy who told me.

I'm not in the market for a Telemaster but a Jazzmaster with P90's for $200 is rediculously GAS inducing.

Curse you anyway!

I may just get one of those Telemasters.  It'd make a nice change to buy something cheap for fun rather than spending loads of money.

I think I may just have unconsciously spent "around $200".  Rats. :)

Any body knows anything about these Xaviere? As far as I know this price is in USA, there is a UK dealer?

I think they're exclusive to Guitarfetish, but I could be wrong.

Having said that, they're presumably made at some big far-eastern (Chinese?) factory which churns out stuff under loads of different brand names (Agile for example?).

GFS ship worldwide I believe. I'm still saving up for a real jazzmaster, they are my dream guitars.

Can't wait to see what it's like!  I expect I'll want to fiddle with it, but for the money what's not to like?  None in blue though, so Twinfan's safe.  For now...

That surf green might look good with a replacement maple board neck.......

Yeah, I think the solid colours - esp. Surf Green - look the best.  I'd be happy with the rosewood.

Awaiting review!  :)

They have been on sale for less than 24 hours and you already expect clips?
