Malmsteen buying a £3500 Strat. Then watch what happens after...
-
Say what you like about Malmsteen, he took rock star tw@ttery to heroic levels. A knob of the first order back in those days.
-
Couldn't agree more fbloke, I hate the tw*t. Nice to see Jimmy Page working in his spare time in a guitar shop.
-
So neither of you found it funny then?
I'd rather be stuck in a lift with him than some one like Morrisey or Gene Simmons.

It was quite funny - I don't mind a bit of rock star tw@ttery as long as they've got a sense of humour about themselves. I think when this was filmed Malmsteen is quite self-aware despite his substance abuse problems. My guitar teacher used to work for Guitarist and interviewed Malmsteen - his opinion is that he's a good bloke underneath the "issues". I think now he's clean he has a good laugh at himself, hence bringing out an album called "Unleash the Fury", taking the mick out of himself over the airplane incident, for which clicky below (warning offensive and very funny content in hybrid Swedish/American accent):

My god guys... That Was COOL! :P
It was safe in a case and the f**ker can get the Fender Custom Shop luthiers on speed dail!
GUITAR HERO... :D

Yngwie is an absolute legend, you should see how he looks after the '54 strat in his studio!
He seems to be humble to those who know him and arrogant to those he doesn't.
Personally i can't stand gene simmons but am endeared towards Malmsteen.
-
do you think he needs some money?

Sorry Steve, it was funny. I was just having a Malmsteen rant. The other funny bit was when someone spotted him and said "It's Bon Jovi."
-
It was my friend Andy Cremona serving him in the shop (Andy's Guitars)
-
Yngwie is such a knob that he somehow transcends knobbishness, to the point of actually being cool.
-
He is an aching pair of balls of a man.

Me too.
I get the feeling that Yngwie is very aware of what a poser he comes across as in the media and likes to play on it like in that clip.
There's also the one where he was in his home studio with all the guitars just lying around. I think it was a set up to be honest.
-
Anyone care to explain the video? I can't watch it at work. I've seen it before though, but can't remember what happens.
-
basically yngwie drives around going on about how awesome he is, pops into a guitar shop, picks up a strat and has play. pays £3500 for it (which the staff find pretty funny), im not sure if he actually pays more than what they are asking for it. Then he walks out the store with the guitar in a case over to his car, the chauffeur opens the rear door and without looking he just throws the case into the car while laughing, then hops in and gets driven away.

There's a bit of haggling - they're on the phone to the guy who owns it, he initially wants £3,600 (I think), Yngwie offers £3,000, then £3,200, then eventually goes for £3,500.
-
ah. i wasn't pay attention.
i kind of thought he just came in and paid more than what the shop were asking just for the hell of it.
-
Mind you - if it was a real 63 Strat then £3.5K was a bit of a bargain!
-
I'm sure the '63 strat can handle that, especially in the case... but what a dick, i don't think hes tryng to create some sort of clever image at all.
-
Am I the only one who thinks that what he does in that shop sounds horrible?
The tone is horrible. It's not the guitar's fault but it wasn't designed for high gain speed noodling back in '63. And when he plays, other than it's w**kery, there's too many notes choking.

i believe it was something like "alright 3500 but don't you put no $%ing tax its 35 flat"
