Title: finding other musicians
Post by: Dmoney on November 05, 2009, 02:23:08 PM
im thinking of trying to join or start something new.

does everyone here doing bands just get their mates, or do you trawl adds and such? if so where do you look?

i kind of want to do something in addition to my current band.

#1 choice - start something else with current band lineup, or a subset thereof.  I'm currently doing this with my 'DC band as we're doing a couple of hard rock cover gigs next year.

#2 choice - find something that appeals here:  http://www.partysounds.co.uk/

Surely you know loads of other local bands? That's your first stop to find other players in my book.

I have loads of projects, most of which you could link to each other through various members playing with each other in a myriad of other bands. Most music scenes are quite insestuous, I guess cause most musicians usually have a desire to play more than one style of music.

I second partysounds.  I've quickly found drummers via that site before.

The best way to find drummers is next to the cider in ASDA.

i do know a lot of bands, im just thinking about doing something totally different.

there is always a shortage of drummers, and i don't really hang out with too many people that id like to be in bands with.

i thought it was in the practice room teaching the guitarists to stay in time?

I used to play the drums. I know it's only a joke, but you guys wouldn't presumably have much time for guitarist jokes either.

www.gumtree.com (http://www.gumtree.com)

Used both recently after moving to Ipswich and I now have four bands on the go.

I'd echo some of the suggestions - my band is currently recruiting a replacement for a departing member and we have placed ads on those sites and Friday Ad -we have two auditions this weekend. Similarly those sites are good to look for new situations plus NFE's suggestion is a great one in my experience too. Get out and about seeing local bands and see what occurs.
