been waiting a while on this one!!!!
a while ago my band played with some guys from america who'd had a go on these, and denim & leather gave a high recommendation.
I dropped those dudes a line and found a lot of stuff me and Danny at Sommatone had in common.
anyway. he offered to build me one, and this is it! Orange bronco tolex on the back and sides, black snake skin on the front. white piping. this one has a mini toggle voltage selector for 120v vs 240v. im slightly scared of it being a mini toggle still!
6550 power tubes, 80 watts, 4 12AX7's. High gain. its surprisingly light. the shipping form says it weighs in at 19Kg will all the packing etc.
this thing is SO classy. immaculately built.
I just had a go and i think its awesome.
Its a very bright amp. Im using my 4x12 with V30 x G12T75 mix. (until the CL80's arrive) and i had the treble down at about 3.5 (out of 10). The bass i had right high. the focus control is pretty good and tightening up the bass. I'm still getting used to how it is, but im loving it so far! has a really sweet tone to it. very detailed. It also cleans up pretty well (well enough for me anyway!) I got this thing up to 3 in bedroom and its LOUD! luckily i don't have neighbors to care about!
its a bit easier to drive than the uber, and a bit more of a hard driven vintage tone then my avenger. which i like!
Im sure when i get the CL80's into my cab ill be in for a treat!
baptism of fire at the underworld dec 4th!

Nice job. It'll be interesting to hear what you think after you have gigged it.
-
you do like your orange tolex! :)
looks great, and if it sounds as good as it looks, then happy days. is it a Marshally kinda thing? now you need a radial headbone to switch between your two single channel heads ;)
-
i could use a radial..! hahaha.
yeah it does sound marshall-esque, but its super sensitive to everything.
touch sensitivity is pretty impressive.
the EQ is VERY responsive.
a need an orange sparkle les paul to go with it all! haha

badass :D

Lovely!

Dude, you gotta post some clips, I love to learn about new, rare amps!!!!
-
unfortunately im working a 9-5 tomorrow, then two 12-10pm days, then a week 10pm-8am so i wont have much time.
I will try and do something to do it justice though.
i haven't seen any clips of this amp on youtube. just other sommatone heads, the bluesy amps they do. would be good to have good clips of this on youtube. I think (although not always an accurate representation of the actual audio quality of gear) it can help people ask questions and choose things to investigate.
only thing i can record with is a pod UX1 and a SM58 into Reaper.

Looking good! I'm dead jealous cos my head just blew up :(
Might see if I can make it down for the 4th too!
