Ive picked up an Ibanez 1527 at the weekend and its a great playing 7 string but the pickups are bloody awful.
Its going to be tuned in A standard through my engl powerball. At the moment I'm between nailbombs (alnico & ceramic) and warpigs. I have a warpig in my esp sc-600 which is a maple through neck with mahogany wings and top in drop C and I absolutely love the tone that guitar has, really balanced with a great growly midrange, but im not sure how they will sound in the basswood body and maple/wenge neck.
Im also intrigued by the c-bomb from MDV's review but ive never played one. and I have an alnico nailbomb but thats in an all mahogany prs tremonti se and im worried that will be a little undefined.
Basically I want a tight but warm pickup with a nice growly midrange thats not going to get overly muddy with the low A. and preferably alnico not ceramic (ive started to go off ceramics with the powerball)
Cheers for any help,
Kieran

+1 to the nailbomb, I have a set it my RG7321, handles everything that i throw at it with aplomb.

Ceramic nailbomb. Dont worry about the top end with the PB. I too have a PB, and the c-bomb has a sharper top end than an alnico pickup, but sweeter and more tailed off than any of the ceramics. More thunk to its attack. Its also got the snarly mids youre looking for, and more than enough tightness.
