Title: lucky b**tard
Post by: choucas09 on November 17, 2009, 04:11:21 PM
This guitar came up recently on an american forum I'm on and had me reaching for my GAS mask.
The guy in question is a real nice bloke so I can't quite bring myself to hate him for it, but...
It's a 1971 Goldtop Deluxe all original just missing the pickguard and selector switch surround. He posted pictures saying he'd been offered it for for $1300 (£775) and should he buy it. We all screamed buy so he did. There was much discussion about it and then one of the gang found a pair of those embossed minibuckers which were only available on the early 70's deluxes on ebay for $600. This pricked my curiosity and I found a vintage guitar website which gave the current value for 71 to 75 deluxe goldies as $3500 to $4300. Like I said lucky b**tard.

OMG how jammy is the bloke! I think the best deal I ever got was getting my PRS tremonti for £1000 when it should of been closer to £1.5-2k

I've snagged some good deals in my time, but that really is a nice score.  lucky b**tard indeed... :)

Lucky man!

My old bass-player had one (mebbe still does, dunno). Actually, he leant it to the other guitarist in the band cos he thought it should be in use. The guitarist tried it for a few rehearsals and then brought it round my place cause he was having real problems with it and felt too enbarrassed to tell the bass-player. I already knew it sounded sh1te from the noises coming out of his amp (bassist and his brother the drummer thought it sounded fab ), but I tried it out with him and found it was an absolute POS! It sounded naff through all the amps we had, and it was REAL difficult to play...

I said "just tell him you're not getting on with it, imply it's obviously your fault, but you don't want p1ss around with the set up (it had just been set up apparently), and then give it back to him!"

Best deal I ever got was a 2nd hand Fender Japan Tele + case for £350 when it could have fetched £550. I suppose percentage wise, that's a bit of a good deal :D

Looks great, if it's a good one, then he's Charlie Harper kind of lucky...

A friend of mine's got one of those he's had, I believe, since new (I think it has the embossed minis too).

Maybe I should tell him what it's worth -  could help pay for his son's tuition at Cambridge!
