We have two sets of these already available in our shop
We have a Miracle Man set - ideal alternative to the much used EMG81/85
We also have a Ceramic Warpig set in all black covers
Give me a ring if you fancy them they look great!
-
They look nice and I'd be tempted for that look in my jazz guitar which currently has Bartolinis in it (also plain black except an embossed logo).
I think they've been 'unofficially' available for a while (i.e. not on the order page) and I'm sure I saw a pic of someone with some in a Dean or ESP V a while back.

Had a set of EMG styled cold sweats in a flying v.....niw the property of another forum member.

I hate seeing idiotic comments like this. You need to understand that the EMG 81 and 85 pickups are very very different from one another. Saying that the MM is the ideal alternate for both of them is ludicrous, and misinformation at the very least. You should be more careful about this in the future, as it just makes you look like an idiot.

Miracle man set
I thought I remembered someone quoting Tim on the forum before that open poles meant the magnetic field was restricted where the polepieces should have extra force. Any update?

Did you get out of the wrong side of bed this morning mate? Why don't you go back there and calm down before you insult anyone else.

This is not an insult, it's friendly advice. If no one ever calls this guy on his bad advice and misinformation he's so quick to espouse while trying to make a sale, how will he ever learn?

If that is your idea of friendly advice I think I'll steer well clear.

If he learns from the mistake that I had the balls to call him on, he will go on to be a more professional and knowledgeable salesman, and thus he will do better business, be more successful, and make more money. It just doesn't get any more friendly than that in my book.

I am sure he'll be grateful for your consideration.

Dude, start to behave or we don't want you in this forum. There's no room for rants like that in here.

WOAH!
slightly uncalled for
I read feline's suggestion as saying the MM set was a good replacement for an 81/85 emg set,
which is the most common pair of EMG's right?
he didn't suggest the MM was a passive replica of an 85 at all!
I know some people swap the 85 to the bridge, but if you got a guitar with this 81/85 pair and wanted a passive pickup set and you liked the 81 bridge, 85 neck, then its a good choice. I know because I replaced some EMG's with that exact setup. I didnt much care for the 81 or 85 in either position. (in the end i settled on nailbombs in that guitar)
now we've cleared that up, do you have an more gems of wisdom for us all? im sure you could teach us all a thing or two.

Sorry mate - you are being a bit of a muppet
You may not have been around this forum long enough to have realised that I am possibly one of the members with the more extensive pickup knowledge - both theoretical and practical.
The Miracle man set was designed by Tim to replicate the tones that Zakk Wylde used on the No Rest for the Wicked / No More Tears albums where Zakk was using EMG 81 and 85.
The neck position Miracle Man has a different magnet to the bridge position model and sounds different as a result
Also remember that Tim was guitarist for Ozzmosis (Ozzy tribute band) at the time so he had plenty of chance to hone that sound.
As it happens I have actually been using EMGs (and fitting them for others ) since about 1987 and am fully conversant with their design .
I know that the 85 utilises an alnico magnet and different tonal shaping on it's preamp voicing circuit and as such does have a different tonal footprint to the mid focussed/ceramic magnet 81
However by using an alnico in the NECK position Miracle man pickup Tim comes very close to matching the vibe that the 85 has in the neck - it's not the exact same - i wouldn't want it to be, but it has a similar flavour .
I was simply using shorthand that most of the more familiar BKP users would undersand - especially as these all black covers will appeal to players who love the all black EMG look.
Wasn't wanting to start any online argy-bargy - was just adding my two penny worth to the voices of the other members who were already enjoying or were excited by the new(ish) option for covers on their BKPs

+1
or, as my old headmaster used to say "Gentlemen, I think we have the makings of a misunderstanding" :)

I think it's all ok now
I suspect that Cookie Monster didn't realise that there are separate bridge and neck models of the Miracle Man, and to be fair the product description on the BKP website doesn't list that there is a separate neck model as the site is still awaiting the update which has been in the works for a long time now.
It's just that many of us already know about it that we maybe assume that others do as well

i had one of these no hole cover humbuckers (albeit it's in battle damage finish) fitted at felines.. they look WICKED!
as i was saying to ben the other day.. i need one :P later i realised i already have one. shows how much i play guitar latelly..
jonathan.. would you fancy flying all the way over here and do a setup on the jackson? it's been in the corner for a bit too long and it needs a setup :P hehe
-
Send me a return ticket and I'll get it to Feline and back ASAP... I could use a trip on expenses.
I'll give Vince a shout and we can do some karaoke!!
"Pa Pa Pa...POKER FACE, Pa Pa...POKER FACE!!! ma ma ma ma..."
I'll throw in a tune-up for free! :P

My apologies to you good sir. I was in a pissy mood last night, and very tired, and people on other forums had been making recommendations to me that were as if they hadn't even read my post. When I saw this thread, I was excited that I may find the answers I was looking for, and then when I read yours it just felt like another big disappointment, thus the rant. Again, I'm sorry for being so brash, and thanks for clearing this up for me.

I was rather taken aback - especially over the "misinformation" bit as I would always try to give the best advice and opinions possible.
This place is a very friendly forum , so please make yourself at home and get to know the guys.
You might have gathered that I have done lots of work for many of the guys on here, and looked after them well (and become friends with them), and apart from people upholding the desire for a flame free forum, they may have also wanted to correct the idea that I would mislead anyone.
Feel free to chat to me or anyone else here and we'll all try to help you get the stuff you need to sound great.

i had standard black covers in a burst LP and it looked awesome, the closed covers should look even better.
-
Everyone is getting exited by these covers in black, but what I really want to see is some in burnt chrome. PDT_011

Yeah - that could look great
Or distressed ones like on a Warpig
One thing that can make a difference is the screw/slug arrangement under the cover
I remember discussing this with Tim a couple of years ago and if I recall correctly
1)You could have a plain (no holes) cover over a regular screw poles and slugs as long as the screws were screwed flush with the bobbin top, which should yield a normal(ish) kind of tone
2)You could go for double row of slugs which would change he tone a bit - it would reduce low end as none of the pole-pieces would be going through the baseplate and add a bit to the mids I believe.
I had a pair of painkillers like that in a Flying V I made a couple of years ago and it sounded great.
3) A double row of screws is the third alternative and with two rows of screws going through the baseplate it will up the bottom end a little.
I would have to renew the conversation with Tim to get the technical reasons for the traits of each option but if I remember correctly:
The magnetic field is altered slightly by the screw pole-pieces coupling with the nickel silver base-plate (not so true on brass base-plated pickups - Dimarzio and a number of other companies use brass base-plates)
