My nephew has dinged his Baja Tele and has asked me how much I thought it would be to have it stripped and refinished in nitro. As I've no idea can anybody give me a ballpark figure?
-
More than it would be worth probably. I'd guess £150+
Why not either strip it and if it looks good give it an oil finish, easy to do and 'thinner' than nitro
or, wait until it's wamer and get some cans of nitro from Manchester Guitar Tech. I stripped and refinished a strat which was not too difficult. You should wear breathing apparatus when working with Nitro though.
Stripping polly is a pain but should be easier on a Tele as it has less contours....

Unless it is really unsightly, I'd tend to accept it as patina if it were my guitar.
-
^ my thoughts exactly. It won't stay minty new for ever.
-
Stick it on Ebay as a relic.
Starting price about £500, I reckon.
Mark.

I agree with you guys. He'd be better off spending the money on a pair BKP's, he's got them in his LP. Thanks.

Really? That cheap??! (Mines already got over twice that much invested in it, what with BKPs, a refret, etc...)
But in general I'd go with 38th's acceptance of dings... mine's got a minor one on it somewhere on the front, walked into the fridge with it or something... true rock and roll battle-scarring!!

walked into the fridge with it
You must have a huge fridge.

Sims Custom would charge £320 for a clear finish on a neck and body. More if you want a colour, a lot more if you want a metallic or sparkle finish.
I'm sure there must be much cheaper places, but IMO it's too expensive to be worth the bother.

Took me a while to get that... but:
