Title: Bass through guitar amp
Post by: 5F6-A on November 27, 2009, 07:17:59 AM
I've been playing a mighty, bumblebee loaded  1980 G&L bass through my valve guitar amp with 2 x 12" speakers. I'm not cranking it or anything to be on the safe side. Still the 2 weber alnicos don't show the whole low end spectrum as they weren't designed for bass anyway but my question is... the speakers are very new and still sound a bit stiff... would the low end freqs coming from the bass at low volume help loose those speakers up?

I don't know about loosening up- I suppose it might do so but the obvious thing is not to crank things too much.

+1 for PMT, not been into Reverb since they took over the old Sound Control.

If your headed south I heard good things about Coda Music in Luton/Stevenage - they've got a shop soiled worn SG listed on their website.

Play mp3s or FM radio through the amp for a good few hours - it'll loosen up the speakers more than a bass for an hour (alternatively, you are using 50s retro speakers - they are BRIGHT)
