Title: Pickups for a Gibson SG?
Post by: JamesHealey on November 30, 2009, 10:59:46 PM
Hey guys, opinions on pickups for an SG? I want lots of mids, possibly a fatter bottom than the stock Gibson pickups and a low to modern output say 9k-14k.

I was thinking Nailbomb or Rebel Yell I've got experience with the Nailbomb and I thought it was nice, I really dig the VH2 they're my favourite but I wanna try something new.

I wonder if a HolyDiver would do a good job in an SG?

Holydiver or Black Dog?

Fat pickups can sound cr@p in SGs in my experience though.  Just ask MartinW.

Crawlers.

I think Crawlers would be too dark in an SG.  Probably HD and maybe NB too.  Bassy/low-middy pickups sound boomy and muddy in SGs, IMO.

RY would work fine.  Cold Sweat works great, but probably doesn't have the mids you want.

We've had a thread about this in the past that Tim contributed to - here (http://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=1455.0)
