So I was thinking about picking a new bridge pickup to replace my MM7. I have it in a Carvin DC727. It's a maple/walnut neck-through with mahogany body wings and ebony fretboard. It's a bright guitar, but not as bright as the standard alder 727. I tried them out side by side and noticed that the mahogany really thickens up the sound and makes the bass and mids more prominent.
Anyways I love the heavy rhythm tones I get out of the MM, but I was thinking about getting a more versatile pickup that will sound better clean and maybe a little less harsh for leads without losing the brutal rhythm tone. I usually go for a Nevermore type rhythm sound, which the MM can do very well. I'll be playing through an Engl Invader 100.
I was looking at trying either a PK or a NB. What do you guys think?

Nailbomb for sure! It is heavy enough for rythms, more versatile, cleans are better and leads are smoother!!
Chris Broderick played a Nailbomb 7 in Nevermore in a similar guitar. Also I think the Nailbomb with it's Alnico magnet gets closer to the Nevermore Sound (which is basicly all Jeff Loomis on the records with his EMG 707s)

Thanks for the info! However Broderick was playing in a basswood bolt-on with a floating bridge, which is very different from my guitar. Also he never recorded with them. I'm concerned because I've heard the Nailbomb is looser compared to the PK or MM, and I need something really tight for rhythms. It needs to be nice and growly on the low B with plenty of squealy harmonics. If the Nailbomb can get me closer to the Loomis tone I'll be really happy, because I've heard great things about their versatility as well.

maple neck through, so you probably want to stay with a ceramic magnet. it may seem an odd choice, but i'd think about the cold sweat. the painkiller does have better cleans that the miracle man, but i think the CS might work better with the mahogany.

the nailbomb is still a very tight pickup, just not as tight as a MM
I don't know in which guitar he had the nailbomb, but some of his Ibanez are mahogany
I know the transblack one with a cold sweat is mahogany, according to Broderick himself
you can e-mail or pm him in some forum

I agree with the Nailbomb suggestions. It's still a tight pickup - this video shows alot of tight riffing on a Nailbomb-equipped 7-string:

How does the Cold Sweat bridge compare to the Nailbomb?

I have both, but in very different guitars. However, the CS has a tighter bottom and more cut in the highs (mind you, it cuts, it's not harsh..at least when paired with a suiting guitar). Nailbomb emphasizes upper mids more.
Mind you, there is also the ceramic Nailbomb available. It's basically an overwound cold sweat.

Another nailbomb vote.
