Threadnomancy!
Got this link from JDC who has now sparked massive DAR gas for me. In particular, the new Future Breed Machines (Fredrik Thordendal) signature amp looks sweet!

Don't know how long the tubes last - I've heard they cost about 100 quid each and would last about 1000h on full tilt with soft start, but I'm not sure if I lend any credence to these numbers. Sounds great, and sure as hell looks fantastic.

That tone frederik conjures.. I dont like it at all. it reminds me of a 5150. just with 10x more fizz
-
That's quite an eccentric design!
I had a look at the 6C33 specs.
The filaments require around 40W of power, (3.3A at 12.6V) and the plate dissipation is 60W for maximum power in class A!
That's 200W at idle. Your gonna need a big fan.

Roo I did some more digging around and from what I understand Fredrik's signature amp is based off that one but might be voiced differently, can't remember if I showed you this clip but the control lay out is interesting and it looks like you can use cab impulses with it for going direct to a mixer like you can with an axe-fx

jpf: it has 2 fans ;) and a lighting controller so it might pay for itself if you can sack the lighting guy

okay i changed my mind.. I gotta own one :D
-
Heh Madsakre - I have a 5150-II, and you can always drop the top end a touch to tame any fizz :)
But look at it! Want! :)

Haha well im in the other ballpark as a Recto lover.
But this beast has even more punch in the bottom end :D and that grind!! Damn no need for a compressor ever again :D
Im thinking about getting myself a tuzzia next year. if i dont like it, then i could change it back for a dual rec anyway :D

i may be able to help you lads then, i have these 1st version future breed machines on order. the 2nd version later in the year will have impulse Response technology and a bunch of other features added in (and will therefore be more expensive...) and i expect delivery sometime in April as they've just been to sweden to do final voicing tweaks etc. should be just about getting production rolling right now as we speak. not sure what the pricing will be yet until they land thru my door and UPS and our lovely customs dept. get their pound of flesh.
the shell of the amp is aluminium and the concept was based on the Forza, but takes a bit of a left turn, true to meshuggah form. all finished in evil stealth black and sporting the catch33 snakes i've been told. i've suggested the chaosphere logo for the I.R. version, but we'll see... needless to say, they're gonna kill.
praise be in particular to mike, paul and jocke for their help and time at the namm show.
and letting me play fred's catch33 ibanez 7
cheers guys

Sounds great. I see no European-dealers on the website.

you forgot to mention the preamp pedal that takes impulse cabs ;)

I've seen designs for big 6C33 OTL hifi amps. Apparently the tube was developed for use in the radar of Russian MIG-25 fighter planes, no idea who first thought that would be a good tube for audio. I'd guess the heaters are run at 6.3V and 5.6 to 7.2 Amps which for four tubes amounts to a LOT of current and probably enough heat to fry an decent omelette.
Anode current 450-630 mA is insanity! I did notice the spec sheet says "Working position: upright" whereas the amp designers have positioned it horizontally. I've never been a fan of output tubes mounted this way, I can see that cooking one side of the tube and killing it stone dead very quickly and I wouldn't care to be around one when the tube starts arcing and shorting.

do these things have a power transformer the size of a small hatchback?

may using switching power... :?
but no output transformer is needed for 6c33c-b
-
i knew about them having no output transformer.
I don't really like the sound but it's a pretty 'out there' design.

I found this namm vid that seems ok. goes into the tech aspect in a light way. I think they got the wrong demo guy for the hi gain stuff.

Most valves are fine with horizontal mounting.
Usually the datasheet specifies an orientation for horizontal mounting so that the part of the anode that gets hot is at either side of the valve (rather than top an bottom).
Regardless, I consider a horizontally mounted valves in a well ventilated box, a la Bluesbreaker, to be better for thermal management than valves mounted upside down, as in Fender combos.

Euro dealer announcement(s) in the works, we're all flat out organizing plus mike and the boys are toiling away in the workshop. so please forgive any delays in any aspect. more news when i have it... cheers!

Welcome to the forums, Sam, and thanks for the update!
I'm getting quite moist about the FBM - would be great to hear from you when you've got yours!
