Thinking about getting some wire wool on my Tele neck and taking some of the gloss off it. It's a Nitro finished Allparts neck and it feels pretty good but I do like the less glossy Nocaster necks. It's doesnt have to look aged or anything but I'm just pondering whether a gentle rub with some Liberon 0000 or 000 would improve the feel without looking rubbish.
Any thoughts?
I remember a guy in Guitarist (Neville Martin I think) used wire wool on the body and neck of a new ES335, would anybody go that far?

stick with the 0000 gauge Liberon - 000 may be a bit coarse

Not tried this on nitro, but the scouring side of a washing up sponge does the job alright for me on poly necks :D
I had the wire wool ready, but was scared, and someone somewhere suggested the scourer... so I did it... and nothing horrid happened...

Except now the guitar smells of spag bol. :P

I use 3M Sandblaster Fine 180 sanding pads (the ones you get from B&Q) - they work nicely on polyester finish necks.

That is how I do it on nitro-finished necks as well. Plus no stray steel to get stuck to pickups.
Go slow, you can always take off more later.

the 0000 Liberon wire wool did the trick. It's that fine it takes the shine off nicely without leaving any marks. Very easy....
