am in the search for either a specific guitar amp. or atleast the knowledge of how to achieve my goal.
I want a 2 channel amp with maybe 3 or 4 stomp boxes. an amp for metal with a crystal clear clean.
heres the kicker. I want to only have to use the amps footswitch. Ill explain.
I want to be able to have all the pedals on (or off) and have only the channel that is selected be effected.
for example. if i have everything on the clean channel. but currently on the OD. no matter how much on or off i push the my pedals the OD would not be affected.
with that said I well aware of the GCX but it is overkill IMO for what i want.
i did recently learn what true bypass was. hope someone can help me

So you want to be able to switch between (for example) channel A with stomp boxes and channel B with no stomp boxes?
What kind of effects would you be using? If they are modulation effects, delays, etc then something with an assignable effects loop or a separate loop for each channel would work.
Perhaps an amp with MIDI control such as the Hughes & Kettner Switchblade might be able to do this?
If you're planning to use overdrive/distortion/wah or any other pedals in front of the amp you might be looking at a 2 amp setup and an A/B switch, unless you can find a loop pedal that also allows amp channel switching.

so i need to look with an amp with seperate effects loops? heres the problem. i dont have the effects yet. i have ran 2 amps at one time and either the A/B switch (morley) i had SUCKED or mine was defective.
i will most likely have an assortment of boss pedals. delay chorus and an EQ maybe something else. i only ever use effects on clean.
what im going to attempt to do is get a GNX 4 and run it with an amp. but i use the amps distortion.
thats why im asking. i was hoping that if i went to channel B. with what ever effects were on channel A. channel B would not be effected

Well, channel switch footswiches are not really rocketscience - so you could eventually build your own and have it control the fx loop too.

Well, I was thinking about a DIY switcher-looper that would both switch the amp's channel AND activate/deactive the FX at once (either directly on the amp if the amp's fx loop is footswitchable or else on the looper itself). From what I've seen of both simple loopers (dead simple circuit) and channel footswitches (idem), it should be relatively easy - and way cheaper than a GNX 4 or (if such a beast exists) a channel switching amp with separate FX loops.
My 2 cents, really.

I would say use a bypassable FX loop either going into the amps input or a built in one with that option. Even then, however, you will have to turn of the effects before switching channels.
Or, you could get a Vox Tonelab and run it into the input of the amp.

A Marshall JVM can do this easily. You can programme the footswitch to be any combination of channel, master volume, FX loop.

A Laney VH100-R has seperate effects loops for seperate channels. It has 2 channels, each with a high and low gain mode, so its almost like 4 channels.
I used to own one and rated it very highly. Unfortunately 100W is a tiny bit too much for my living room so it had to go.

sweet bad ass and thanks... so seperate effects loops then. thanks but if there was ever an anti marshall fanclub in the world i would be president. I think alot of people make them sound good. but not what im looking for tone wise. but knowing it will do it i might try and find one and spend some time with it.
im a huge gear freak you guys will come to find out and ask some really odd ball questions but i love learning all i can. saves money and sometimes i help others find what they want and then theysave money.

What you need is the Radial Tone bone switchbone pedal - two separate lops with a remote channel switching jack that can automatically change channels depending on which loop you choose to be on

i found a few different types of that tone bone. i guess i would just run effects to one loop? and nothing to the other? i am not sure how i would run that? im going to look more into it...
i think i have found a $%&#ing amp that just kills it definatly has that tube sound that i hate at times but damn it sounds more ballsy then anything i have heard..demo wise anyways
Laney VH100R is i hate to say it for fear of jnxing myself but...almost...becoming my dream head?
i cant find any good demos of it...not suprised..every demo is the same...standard tunning guitar whacking.. apparently anyone with a webcam that can solo feels their video demos HAVE to be on youtube. god forbid we ACTUALLY hear a song on the $%&#ing amp we are investigating.
