a Warpig for my SG.
Going to stick my Miracle Man in my Explorer soon too. Anyone know if a 53mm pickup will have problems in a 50mm guitar?
Paddy.

Nah, you'll be fine.
Did you get the leg length right? Youll need a long leg pickup for an SG Standard or Special, short legs for a '61 reissue.......

I've got a 53mm Riff Raff in my SG-X. The spacing's a little too wide, but the 50mm is a little too narrow - not worth worrying about the difference really.

I've found that a large number of my guitars seem to have 51.5mm spacing between the strings - i.e. bang in the middle
Either pickup spacing works - even if the top & bottom strings only just line up with the edge of the pole piece, they're well within the magnetic field. If in doubt, go wider.

Yeah, I find DiMarzio's F-spacing is actually the best fit on most guitars (that's not meant as a DiMarzio sales pitch!).

That's just the "modern" ones like 490T, 498T, 500T. The "vintage" ones like '57 Classics, Burstbuckers etc are closer to 50mm.

do they use different bridges for each model?
cause I've never seen a gibson/schaller/gotoh bridge with 50mm
and I actually did a lot of searching
even my '73 les paul custom has a huge schaller harmonica bridge that came in all SG models, les paul recording and the les paul signature, and I always though that bridge was 50mm, but it's actually about 52mm and the string spacing is much wider than the regular spacing of my nailbomb

They use either an ABR-1 or a Nashville on everything, so I agree, the spacing at the bridge itself is always more like 52mm. They do notch the saddles by hand and sometimes they're centred, sometimes they deliberately seem to go a bit wider.
I haven't had my hands on many real vintage Gibsons, maybe the saddles were spaced a little narrower in those days? Or maybe the strings always sat towards the outer edges of the bridge-pickup polepieces. :?
