Title: Mississippi Queens in a Tele
Post by: Loobs on December 29, 2009, 02:21:22 PM
Hey guys - I have found a deal on a set of matched MQs, second hand. I am currently putting together a Warmoth Tele Deluxe build with an Alder body. Has anyone any idea how the MQs will sound in an alder bodied bolt-on, 25.5" scale, Fender style guitar? I am looking for nice single-coil clarity and a present top-end, as well as a warm and round mid range and bass. I am assuming these pickups should amply do the job and that I should pull the trigger - btw, it's £140 for the pair, a very reasonable deal.

Oh look what I have. Exactly what you're looking at. The MQs in my tele deluxe are a little overwound, but i've had the vanilla model in a tele before and there isn't a huge difference. They are awesome, i totally recommend them. Very warm and balanced, but still cut through a mix.

That is $%&#ing awesome! Can you still get a fair bit of cut with them, I want some spank!

Not sure about spank, but with a tweak of your treble knob on your amp they can be very cutting, but still full bodied if that makes sense?

Sounds exactly what I'm looking for. Fantastic.

MQs in an alder tele - very nice indeed

MQs are a wonderful sounding pickup - fat like a humbucker but with that extra bit of character that only a single coil gets
And slightly less hum than a regular P90 because of the screening that the pickup cover gives
