I've toyed with the idea of doing this for a while - the idea came to me one night while I was dreaming! No idea where the inspiration entered my subconscious though.
While I'm sure there'll be a "love it"/"hate it" split, I'm pretty happy with how it's turned out. Easy to remove them if I change my mind though ;)
A 50's Top Bound Esquire needs a 50's pin-up girl or two.....

I rather like that Dave! Although my strat is the same colour I don't think it would look as good. Where did you get them from, I might give them a go just to see what they look like.
-
nah, dont do one on a strat. tele's only... and it looks great
-
Yup leave the strat alone...
Looks OK Dave, though I think the guitar is stunning without.
I've done something similar with my Feline but alittle bit more "LA Hair Metal" - I'll take some pics soon.
-
I had considered it, but thought it wouldn't suite the guitar.
Looks awesome though, would also like to know where you got them from
-
I love that kind of pinup artwork, not sure the guitar needs it though.... how about some long-range pics so we can see the overall effect?
-
I got them from a seller on eBay - he's got TONS of the stuff.
Hectic Decals: http://stores.shop.ebay.co.uk/HECTIC-DECALS
I'll try and get some better pics in daylight, can't really get a decent full shot at the minute:

Looks good, but I guess the girl should be more white than blue
-
Yep, I guess so!
I didn't want them to be too bold, and by going with a clear background (instead of white) it looks like they've faded over the years. Suits the relic style?
-
the faded style definately works best on this

Makes sense :)
-
Nice Dave, I think they look great.
Bought some for my tele a while ago but lost them in the house somewhere......
-
I think it looks good! Was thinking about getting one for my Epi, they seem to work on LP Customs as well :)
-
Shouldve had her sitting on the edge of the bridge
-
It's too big to fit there unfortunately. I have a couple of other decals that might suit sitting on the bridge, but it might look a bit cheesy???
-
Weird, I'd been looking at some decals over crimbo whilst I was researching some relicing techniques - http://www.relicdeluxe.com/decals.asp
I think I would have used a white background one to make them stand out more. Did you get any white background ones for comparison?
If I'd want to age them I wonder if chucking them under a sunbed for a while would work?
-
Love it!
-
unsure :?
(but don't hate it)
-

Nah, I didn't. With the white ones you need to cut out the decals very accurately to avoid white borders. I'm not accurate enough with scissors or a knife to do that  Mine are cut out like a Fender logo, with a bubble around the image.
They may well fade under a sunbed if that's your bag...
-
That is too cool but I like '50s pinups
I think it works really well on the guitar, the fading is more in-keeping with the general relic theme. I'm just about to pimp my Baja, after about 2.5 years of dithering. Maybe a pinup would be a good idea.
-
Very Nice Dave. :)
I echo the sentiment that for some reason it sits better on the Teles ( and Gretsches ) of this world. It seems to allude to the whole spirit / essence of Rockabilliy , exuberant good times - and the very best of retro 'Americana'. I was once going to do that to my own Baja Tele, but thought it might look a bit 'obvious' on a non faded cream Tele - and a far less subtle sticker. Yours however, is the perfect fit of time machine guitar - and deliciously subtle decal application. 8)
-
Looks cool.
But they only work on certain guitars.
-
Going off topic for a minute, but those pics are a reminder of what a terrific relic job they did on that particular guitar. It looks so cool. :)
-
It feels great too. I love it, especially for gigging :D

Please stop - you're making me want it back!! Not that nasty Dave would ever let it go though
-
You've only got yourself to blame for letting her go... Your friends on the board TRIED to warn you that she was special but no... you wouldn't listen.
Now you see Dave and her are happy and have a fantastic life together you want her back?
Well you just had to have her younger sister didn't ya?
3 pickups got your head in a spin... I hope you're happy with that blue hussy of a Strat you've got now!!!

Awesome choice of song.
She's very pretty - me and Shobet both had a go of her while Dave watched the other month.
Back to you Afghan Dave...........
-
3 pickups got your head in a spin...
That, and those extra svelte curves...
-
I remember gently cupping her neck in my hand, while holding her body close to mine.
In that moment.... That moment.
I knew I'd never miss curves again....
-
LOL!
Dave, you're cracking me up.
-
holding her body close to mine.
Are you referencing a Patrick Swayze song? It sounds like you are.
And I am actually happier with the strat, I just know I'll get an Esquire one day!
-
And I am actually happier with the strat...
Yup, you just keep telling yourself that...

Great choice of songs Dave!
I have told myself that I am happier ever since I got it. To be honest I would love to have had both but really wanted a top quality Strat. As stated above I will get another Esquire one day, just not this one.
-
Matt and myself gave her a good going over with lots of complex fingering.

STOP IT.
-
I won't tell you what I've been doing to her. It involves removing her G-string...
-
I bet you plugged your jack into her and gave her some abuse!
-
all night long no doubt
-
Stroking the wood as well I imagine
-
And plenty of fretboard w@nking
-
Ian you've taken it too far.
I'm offended by your obscene typing - I was just talking about playing an instrument
Shobet just phoned up in tears.
Twinfan just text saying he can't look at the guitar anymore as it reminds him of the time the nasty man said bad things.
-
Err, I mean

Was it dirty?
-
I heard both were.
Oh bugger I'm off again
-
Anyone have any clue if the decals have an effect on Nitro finishes? I'd LOVE these on my Gibsons!
-
I have alot of experience with abused instruments and sadly many relationship breakdowns follow the holidays and start early in the New Year....
Some times its financial issues that pull them apart.
Sometimes the guys just a "player" with a wandering eye...
I'm happy to take her in and let her tune down a half-step.
Maybe with a little break I could get her intonation back.
In my experience with an "old 3 barrel Brass" like her who's been about a bit there's usually some unavoidable dissonance.
If you need me Dave, I'm here.
-

Lets the wood settle a bit?

My Tele is nitro. It's a waterslide decal, it'll be fine.

Afghan Dave has trained them well!

When you put the G-string back on Dave....did you give it a little tug?

I was born like this...
She's helped me with my right hand technique, a lot of rapid up down movements. We're getting better at it, the time it takes for it to get tired gets longer and longer every time we practice.
-
Dave did send me a PM a few weeks back asking if I had done any screwing on her. He said she was nice and tight.

There's enough "loose torque" about her already... ( geddit? :?:D )
-
ahem..back to the no-sexual world! IS there any recommendations for a laquer or something to go over the top just to protect the decal as I've now done the same
-
You can get Nitro spray cans - that should do the trick?
