Title: changing a speaker on an amp
Post by: Elliot on November 19, 2005, 07:33:36 PM
How easy is it - is it just a case of soldering a new one in?  Or are there any pit falls for the unwary?

Just make sure you choose a new one with the same ohm rating (or if you can change it on your amp, make sure you have them set to the same value).

The only problem I've had is with some combos that have a tight fit, ie the Super Reverb - you have to remove the amp chassis to get at the speaker mounting bolts!

I recently changed the speakers in my 4104, and the hardest thing for me was ordering the correct speaker! Had to wait while the one I got (an 8ohm V30) was swapped for the one I needed (a 16ohm V30). My own daft fault. :(

The connectors were push fit, but soldering them shouldn't be tricky. IMO wiring a guitar's pickups is more complicated. Just remember where all the wires go (make a sketch maybe?), and you should be fine.
