Title: pickguard and backplate screws
Post by: Sifu Ben on January 09, 2010, 03:33:37 PM
Why are they so hard to take out? My rate of modding is massively hampered by the fact that I can't access cavities etc because I can only get one of the screws out and then give up in disgust and leave it for 6 weeks
Any useful tips?

Try a drop/squirt of oil and wait a few minutes and you shouldn't have any trouble.

Seriously, every guitar. I'm using precision philips head screwdrivers from my kit.

thats a bit weird.  obviously they shouldnt come out too easily but you should not need to force them either.

rather than add oil which can cause contamination problems if refinishing i would use a bit of heat from a soldering iron.  just get them warm and you should find they come out easier.

Hmm, obviously was a problem with my screwdrivers. I subscribed to truefire.com acouple of weeks ago and they gave me this as a freebee http://truefire.com/list.html?store=software_gear&item=8498
It arrived to day and all the screws came straight out no problem.
