Title: Nailbombs In Les Pauls
Post by: willo on November 20, 2005, 12:30:03 AM
I'm curious...with a vested interest, admittedly   . I see a lot of Nailbombs in Ibanez RGs and other similar kind of guitars, but I don't know if I've heard about them in a Les Paul. How would they/do they work in such a heavy, mahogany guitar?

Thanks guys! :)

I would have thought so. They are a versatile pickup and clean up very nicely but still can do an ultra heavy sound. I've got them in my PRS SE which is mahogany although its rather lighter than a Les Paul. I'm putting in an order for a nice Gordon Smith which is Les Paul weight, which I'm planning on having Nailbombs again although I'm trying to decide which covers at the moment.

I don't want to hi-jack the thread but how will Nailbombs work in an Explorer?

Too bassy maybe?

The music retailer i work for had a Marshall roadshow last night. We had the Marshall band doing 2, 1/2 hours sets and talking about the amps.Chris George the Marshall demonstrator has a Nailbomb in the bridge of his Gibson Les Paul and it sounded awesome, very warm and toneful with great clarity. It sounded the best though through the 1959 head and a 8x12 cab (yes 8x12 cab).We had to carry it in.Heavy!!
I thought this was relevant to your question.

It wont give you a tighter bass, it will just give you more.

Huh, a Nailbomb with allen heads for more bass .... is that then essentially an option that puts the pickup somewhere between a regular Nailbomb and a regular Warpig?  (Like a "Nailpig"? :))

No, the Nailbomb and Warpig are very different. It will just sound like a regular nailbomb with a touch more bass.

How should we/you /i proceed to get a Nailbomb With Increased Tighness in the bass??

By BKP making an all new pickup, I expect! :) Or possibly the ceramic-magnet of the Cold Sweat is not a million miles away?  The ceramic magnet should keep things more tight in the low end (from what I understand), and the Cold Sweat is hot, but not insanely hot (from what I understand) ... though perhaps there the similarities end. (I'm guessing! :))

I'm very enamoured of what I've heard from the Warpig clips, but having worried that it might have too much output to go with an Abraxas neck, I've been checking out the Nailbomb clips more seriously, and one of those in the bridge might sit easier with the Abraxas in the neck: pushing things slightly more towards a classic metal vibe in the bridge and slightly more towards classic rock in the neck. A slight bass boost on the bridge could be cool, though since we're talking about NBs in LPs, perhaps a bassier NB makes more sense in a bright guitar and would just start to get muddy in an LP or Explorer?
