I'm having trouble locating both of these amps (I've had my hands on a 50 but not a 100 yet) and I'm trying to find out how different the sound is between them. I'm not talking about the volume they put out but if there is a very noticeable tonal difference between one and the other. I know the volume difference isn't huge at the levels needed to really crank the tubes, but any less volume is better for my situation so I'm trying to find out if I'll be missing out on something sound-wise going with the 50 instead of the 100. Thanks for your help.

Aren't they quite different, with the 50 having 6L6s vs the 100 having EL34s

someone might know this better - but the Orange 2x12 combos at the first BKP meetup rehearsal studios were very disappointing, but the half stack at the second one sounded great.
someone remembers the model numbers?
edit: the 2x12 combo is the 50w one, so I would go for the 100w

Hmm, I'll have to read up more. I've played the Rockerverb 50 head on more than one occassion and was very pleased. I've just never played a 100 and I've never played the combos, either. I'll be purchasing a half stack so I'm not interested in the combos.
EDIT: Will, it appears you're correct. The 50 has 6V6's and the 100 has EL34's. I unfortunately don't know enough about tubes at the moment to know what kind of difference that will make but I'll start reading up. Just didn't know if anyone had some first-hand experience.

there always the difference in the cab - openback 2x12 on the combo vs closedback 4x12 on the head obviously.
several people commented on the difference in tone though.
could be wrong but i also recall we had Oli's laney klipp modded to plexi specs going through the 2x12 speakers on one of the combos and it sounded good.

Up until about 3 months ago I owned the RV50 head and played it through a 2x12 closed back cab.
I have to say, it was one of my favourite amps ever...but wasn't getting used in the end, so sold it to fund a Princeton Reverb for at home.
Anyway, back to the question - significantly different is the answer. I played both and liked the 50 better. It was warmer and rounder, I liked the 6V6s over the EL34s.

Thanks for the good info. I know I'm very happy with the RV50 head so if I'm not able to get my hands on a 100 anytime soon, I'll just go with the 50. I can always trade up down the road if I end up like it that much more when I do eventually get to test one out.
