Title: My current gear - for those interested...
Post by: Twinfan on January 15, 2010, 04:17:59 PM
Rather than hijack Lew's NGD thread, I'll start this afresh.  Along with Ian Price, a few others may be interested to know what's left in my stable at the minute, so I'll break down my guitars and amps.  In the last 12 months I've had a really good clearout, and joined one more band:

For my covers band, Doppelganger:

* Fender CS 50s Top Bound Esquire relic in Lake Placid Blue (ex-Ian Price)
* Fecker La Cabronita in Blue Sparkle (built by WezV)
* Martamp Orion protoype head in black
* Martamp 2x12 in black with Celestion Golds
* MJW FX Driver in black

Both guitars get swapped around gig by gig, and I'll use either/or as main or backup

For my tribute band, YC/DC:

* Epiphone '65 reissue SG with vibrola and Riff Raffs (my only BKPs!)
* La Cabronita - backup
* Martamp M45/100 head
* Martamp 4x12 with Celestion Golds and G12H Heritages

For the 'DC spin-off covers band, Sir Denis:

* Fano JM6 relic in Lake Placid Blue
* CS Esquire or La Cabronita - backup
* Martamp M45 head in blue (ex-Martin of Martamp)
* Martamp 2x12 in blue with Celestion Greenbacks (ex-Martin of Martamp)

Acoustics:

* Martin J15 all-mahogany 6-string
* Martin J12-15 all-mahogany 12-string

Other electrics/amps:

* PRS Modern Eagle - gets out for the odd Doppelganger gig, my overall #1 guitar
* PRS McCarty Korina with Throbak PAFs
* Fender CS '58 Heavy Relic Tele in Red Sparkle
* Squier '62 JV Strat in Fiesta Red with Bulldog pickups - my first electric guitar!
* Gordon Smith GS-1 in cherry red with an SD Custom Shop EVH pickup - about to be set up for slide
* Martamp 6L6 Deluxe relic combo with an old Celestion G12H (bass cone)

Phew!  I think that's it!  My Warmoth Thinline is currently being checked out by a mate to see if he wants to buy it.  If he doesn't, it'll be up for sale on here and elsewhere.

Cheers Dave! I'm debating a cheap(ish) SG just to check that I'm not a HB man. I know your Epiphone (with it's upgrades) cost quite a bit.

What a lovely collection of gear you got, Dave. I could think of a few pieces I would like to own  :D

80% of this will be sold on here in the next 2 years  :)
I'm only friendly with him because he is a source of cheap loot!

:lol:

I'm sticking to my guns about no new guitars this year.  If I could sell any more, I would, but once you've got them it's hard to let them go.  I guess I can justify around half of them, and nearly all the amps, as they go out gigging.

Yes I could use the same gear for different bands if I had to, but where's the fun in that?  ;)

Due to a lack of pics, I'm forced to assume that it doesn't exist :P

Indeed it does. I saw quite a few of this collection on my visit to Dave's.

In that sense it's probably a much higher % than most pros could justify!

Me, I think you should get some more guitars.  :wink:

Twinfan are there any martamps you don't own? I mean, lovely amps, but... leave some for the rest of the world!

Dave, you don't have a banjo- that is missing form your collection for sure.

* Epiphone '65 reissue SG with vibrola and Riff Raffs (my only BKPs!)

Just one set of BKPs?

Shame on you!

I find BKPs work for me in that SG, and I've had BKPs in a lot of other guitars.  I seem to like other stuff better personally, but I recommend BKPs to lots of people.

It's all about the right ingredients for you and your rig isn't it?

There's plenty out there, and more to be built  :)  I was Martin's first customer for a built-to-order amp, so I've had more time to accrue some!  Pete24v here on the forum has several as well.

I actually have one more on order, which is several months away, which is a complete luxury but it's a wedding anniversary present from Mrs Twinfan so that's OK  ;)

Oh and Mr 38th - I have considered picking up a banjo or uke at some point...

An amazing collection of enviable quality !  :D

The only thing missing being a nice Eastman 805 full archtop - or single pickup Eastman 'El-Ray' - which you would later feel the urge to sell in 'Seconds out' at a very tempting price !  :wink:

yeah i have two MJW's, a Roadstar 36 with 6V6's and an MJW Ceriatone HRM. Martin also modded my Matamp Minimat. A Roadstar 18 with switchable drive and fxloop has been ordered too, plus another cab. Great amps, I'm a it like Twinfan, different rigs for different bands  8)

As requested in the '65 SG thread, here's my current stable:

For my covers band, Doppelganger:

* Fender CS 50s Top Bound Esquire relic in Lake Placid Blue (ex-Ian Price)
* Fecker La Cabronita in Blue Sparkle (built by WezV)
* Martamp Orion protoype head in black
* Martamp 2x12 in black with Celestion Golds
* MJW FX Driver in black

Both guitars get swapped around gig by gig, and I'll use either/or as main or backup

For my tribute band, YC/DC:

* Gibson '65 SG genuine old warrior, (not a reissue!), with natural relicing, aged replacement hardware and Throbak PAFs
* Epiphone '65 reissue SG with vibrola and Riff Raffs (my only BKPs!)
* Martamp M45/100 head

Acoustics:

* Martin J15 all-mahogany 6-string
* Martin J12-15 all-mahogany 12-string

Other electrics/amps:

* PRS Modern Eagle - gets out for the odd Doppelganger gig, my joint #1 guitar
* Gibson 'Pearly Gates' Les Paul replica VOS #240 - my pride and joy, and joint #1 guitar
* PRS McCarty Korina with PRS RP pickups
* Fender CS '58 Heavy Relic Tele in Red Sparkle
* Squier '62 JV Strat in Fiesta Red with Bulldog pickups - my first electric guitar!
* Gordon Smith GS-1 in cherry red with an SD Custom Shop EVH pickup - soon to be set up for slide
* Martamp 6L6 Deluxe relic combo with an old Celestion G12H (bass cone)

My Warmoth Thinline Tele will (still!) be up for sale shortly after I've swapped out the current pickups......

Dave, you officially have the worst case of GAS on this forum - we're only just into March and you have two new guitars.

The LP is gorgeous, but the SG has me drooling the most - bet it's a cracker cranked up loud with an old plexi.

+1, I feel your pain.

its a good job that making amps satisfies pretty much all of my GAS otherwise I'd be even more skint - or dehydrated from excessive drooling over guitar and amp porn.

Me too, I just can't afford to do anything about it  :lol:

The only thing I have GAS for atm is a new amp (either something like a Splawn or a Martamp Orion) but I have alot of stuff I need to sell before I can even consider it  :shock:

A nice collection you got there. WHat are you using in the way of pedals?  Do you use the same pedals in  each of the bands?
Title: Re: My current gear - for those interested...
Post by: Twinfan on March 04, 2010, 06:10:18 PM
I use:

a)  No pedals for 'DC, just a wireless and the guitar's bridge volume control!

b)  A home built overdrive for Sir Denis

c)  A pedalboard for Doppelganger, which has on it:

* Dunlop Crybaby wah
* MXR Distortion III
* Empress ParaEQ
* Tonerider SuperLush Chorus
* MXR Carbon Copy Delay
