Title: BKP suggestions for custom 7 string
Post by: 54r on January 17, 2010, 11:16:10 PM
salutations

I am commisioning a custom 7 string from moser guitars.. a mahogany(or maybe swamp ash) neck through body.. string through..

any way   i was wondering which pick ups might work best for the sound i'm looking for..

I play Grindcore/Doom/d beat/Sludge/ hardcore metal.. Band such as Trap them...Exit Wounds..Rotten Sound..Robinson..
i need something with screaming high end and crunchy low end not extremely tight but not non-discernible flubby  low end...

thanks in advance for any input..

Damien

Welcome to the forum!

If its going into a mahogany guitar I would say either a nailbomb or Painkiller with dual allen bolts as that fattens it up a little.

How ever I dont have any experience with swamp ash guitars so I'm not sure on that front.

Also what amp are you using?

knew i forgot something ..

I play out of two amps
a MESA Dual rec solo .. and a ampeg ss150 (old 80's model solid state monster)

You forgot more than one thing - the neck woods. In a through they dominate pretty much utterly.

And welcome.

Damien!!! .... How are you? I hear you are doing great! Glad you joined the forum, as you can see people are very helpful and knowledgeable, as these two gentleman said, all details are very important due to how the pickups interact with the wood of the guitar, the tone you are after, amp, style of music, etc. Also you get a chance to talk to Tim Mills, send him an email with questions, it all adds up. Are you still playing in all those bands ?? Doing New Orleans? Tony said Hi!! Cheers!!

screaming high end and crunchy low end is almost a miracle man description
but I'd probably go with a ceramic warpig
