Hi, I've decided to get myself a half decent electro-acoustic but I have absolutely no idea what to go for. I'm looking for something that's around about £300 - £400. Can anyone suggest anything decent in that price range or any to avoid?
Cheers for any suggestions

Simon & Patrick are amazing for the prices they are or seagull's. Farida aresuppose to be lovely as well

A friend recently bought a Vintage V880. It's a parlour guitar with a solid cedar front (really nice tight grain), laminated mahogany back and sides, a lovely c shaped mahogany neck and maple binding body and neck. Straight out of the box it sounded fantastic so I'll be very interested to hear it played in. A ridiculously good guitar for £125.
Vintage also do an 00, the V1800, with solid rosewood back and sides and a solid spruce top for £350 which is worth investigating.
Neither of these have electrics fitted, but you'd have some change left to sort that out. I'm a fan of magnetic soundhole pups in acoustics. You can whip them in and out in seconds and you can use a normal guitar amp instead of having to spring for an acoustic amp. I like the rich sound they have.
Anyway there are masses of guitars in your price range so it's research job really. Happy hunting.

My mate has got a Faith Saturn and I love it the neck feels like an electric to play, and the quality is brilliant. yamaha acoustics are meant to be very good too.

When I bought my acoustic I gave myself a budget of 250-300, which is probably not far off what you're looking at if you want an electro. I looked at Yamaha, Ibanez, Fender, Epiphone and Freshman (guitarguitar) and went for a Freshman FA200D (it helped that the guy found me a used one for 180 quid while I was on the way to the till with the full price one ). The freshmans trounced everything else on playability, and the 200D has a fantastic tone - only a yamaha I tried came near it, wonderfully rich and full for the money.
Unfortunately they don't to an electro version of the same guitar, but you could get a 250DCE (the next model up) within budget, or a cutaway model... I'd recommend looking at freshman, anyway.
I don't think avoiding anything is ever really a good idea when you're trying out guitars, but don't be upset if you can't get your hands on any epiphones or fenders. Just no tone to them.

+1 on Simon and Patrick. I've got a Spruce 6, and it's amazing.

+1 on Simon and Patrick. I have an S&P parlour guitar that's superb for the £200 I paid for it.

+1 on the Freshmans, I've got an FA300D, about 4 years old I think (not sure that model still exists last time I looked). Beat all the takamines/etc in my price range the day that I bought it, and it was at the bottom of my price range... :D
If they've kept their quality up, Freshmans are really good buy.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Should help save me some time in my search for an acoustic.

I've got a Tanglewood TW45 which was about that, and I love it (much prefered it to the Yamaha APXs I tried).

I would like to add a vote for a Simon and Patrick.
I have an ageing S & P dreadnought, which has blown me way with its tone and playability. I dont really like dreadnoughts, but this one has such a great sound for the little it cost, and it has converted me to owning a big bodied guitar again.

Mind you this latest aquisition might be doing some travelling with me!!!

I'm selling a LAG Summer Acoustic if you want it. £150. It's a lovely guitar when it's got new strings on it. I'll even re-string it for you. Let me know.

Yamaha APXs are always worth a look for an electro in this price bracket, especially if you don't like a particularly big bodied acoustic. I've had mine for 10 years now, and it's been excellent.
