I'm thinking of getting a trem for my LTD. just to play about with out.
Not owned a guitar with a trem for about 12 years.
I know of the stetsbar, and kahler and such... ive been looking for things that will fit without routing.
I don't think the stetsbar will, and the saddle and tail setup on the LTD is closer together than on a LP, and the stetsbar is designed to fit a LP setup. I don't even know if the stetsbar is good... or if going down the 'no routing' route is the best plan.
any ideas? any experiences?

A bunch of us got excited about a no rout fitting for Bigsby stuff a while back (I think Philly even bought one - he should have fitted it by now ) - that sits in the tail piece slots.
I didn't go for it in the end (although I have since refloated a strat trem and have a new guitar with trem on it).
Can't remember what the bluddy thing was called, see if I can find it... Not sure a Bigsby type of trem (subtle wobbles and vibrato) is what you might be after though?

wonderbar!

washburn wonder bar?
i just want to see what kind of things are around.
Im not really expecting a retro fit trem to handle divebombs and that kind of thing. might just be nice to have a trem once in a while i guess. if i put it on the EC-1000 its no big deal

this the other thing?

Yep, that's it, just found the thread: http://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=18445.0 (http://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=18445.0)
It's actually getting me tempted again - I am using tremelo a fair bit now, and the Explorer pic in that thread is the very twin of mine for looks...
I've actually got over the "other strings detuning" thing mentioned in that thread - it's still there, but seems less of an issue once you get used to it...

Yeah, it was the Vibramate and a Bigsby B5.
And no I haven't fitted it yet.

I put a Stetsbar on an LP once. I hated it, took it straight back off and sent it back.

washburn wonder bar?
yeah, and i was only half joking. its one of the few trems that fits without routing and can still handle some abuse. fits flat top guitars but needs as adaptor for carved tops that would be almost impossible to find :(
the other no route options are bigbsy + vibramate or a les trem if you can find one. neither can take massive amounts of abuse, just not what they are designed for
stetsbar is also no route, i have heard great things about them but not tried one myself yet

If you wanted to go the Bigsby route, there's an alternative to the Vibramate from ZZ Guitars, the EZ-Mount. Similar idea, but they make a bigger range of more specific models. More expensive too.

The cost and hassle to benefit ratio in this case is probably not favourable. Probably better to try and find a cheap but decent secondhand Korean guitar with a Wilkinson. I managed to get a Cort G290 on ebay for £240 and after a fret dress it's fantastic. They come up on ebay fairly often for that sort of money, and there's other stuff too.

i found interesting stuff on ebay.
the plus about having a retro fit that requires no drilling or routing is that if i want to, in future i can ditch the trem.

also tempted to try out a TBX tone control on my LTD. anyone got one of those?
