Sad news. :(
"We want to end the Scorpions' extraordinary career on a high note."

There's still 2 years of touring to follow and who knows what they'll feel like after that. They may have miraculously re-found their drive to create a new album.
Anyway nice bit of PR for the forthcoming tour 'This is your last time to see us, you better buy some tickets!'

I was just going to start a thread on this, you beat me to it! :)
I don't think it's sad news really, I wish more bands would have the dignity to go out on a high rather than trailing away into sad shadows of their former selves.... [cough]Aerosmith[/cough].
I suppose it must be difficult to know you've jumped the shark until long after it happens. And in Scorpions' case, they did have quite a long slump quality-wise without seeming to lose the fanbase. But the last album was great and the one before wasn't bad.
Having said that, they are in their sixties now and many would probably say they should've called it a day years ago (worse than that, many might say "who?")
-
I agree with all the above.
Though I would "never say, never" if I was in a band like either mentioned.
Just mothball the thing and see how you feel after 3 years at home. It's more embarrassing to come back when you realise that you want to play the odd gig here and there.
Joe Perry is looking for another singer to replace Tyler. Now that's just silly. :?

It's true, they don't have to say "never". But I still think a "that's it (for the foreseeable future)" announcement is better than quietly ending a tour and just never coming back.

I agree, but I also think it's God's way of saying "pack it in for $%'s sake".
I personally think Tyler has become a total embarrassment (and I swear he must have been taking some kind of female hormones for years to maintain his "youthful" looks - same goes for Coverdale incidentally). But Aerosmith without him would be ridiculous.

I'm gonna miss them dearly.
But I can surely understand their reasons, and at least it's not a shite fight, but a planned and graceful departure from the rock scene.
-
So when is the reunion planned?

You're a rock'n'roll star
You're out of the charts
Your glorys cold you're getting old
But your life is rock'n'roll!
Crazy rock'n'roll band
Is spinning in your head
Each generation makes us stars
As the first ones on the charts
They are top of the bill!
You're a rock'n'roll star
You've been the first one on the chart
You've had glory and fame
Rock'n'roll was your game
You were top of the bill!

yes - this is very professional, just as throughout their long history

Being one of my favorite all time bands it will be on my todo list to see their last outing. They had a good run.
