Title: New Pickups for Aria Pro II PE-60
Post by: Mageta on January 24, 2010, 10:20:40 PM
Hi guys,
I recently bought an Aria Pro II PE-60 and I want to throw some BKs in there (they just seem to be very HQ and the sounddemos rock, I never used some before though)

What it should sound like:
I like this big fat chunky middy hardrock to metal LP sound, e.g. Tom Morello has with his LP. i
It should be quite tight, no harsh highs, no buzzy bass, just a very harmonical sound with some growlier low mids.

I need a Bridge Humbucker for the more modern sounding riffs and distorted chords and a lot of octaves (very important for me, really!).

The Neck Humbucker should be a little lower outputwise, for things like Street Sweeper Social Club, Wolfmother but it has to be "modern" enough for some higher gain (but no metal for me) solos. So it should be tight but flavoured with a little bit dirt if I want to

The guitar will be almost all the time in dropped or lowered tunings like E-Standard Drop D, D-Standard, D-Standard Drop C, Db-Standard Drop Cb, and E/D-Standard Drop B (!).

They shouldnīt sound too bright, i still want this LP-sound going guys, if you know what I mean (=

I thought of a Holy Diver in the Bridge position and a Steve Stevens in the Neck position.

What would you recommend?

Greetings,
Tim

sounds like you want low/medium output, not a Holy Diver
maybe a black dog or something in between, but in the vintage hot line

morello's burnt les paul has a dimarzio super distortion/paf set, though

Thanks (=
But somehow i canīt imagine that the Black Dog in the bridge (maybe in the neck) is right for me...when I listen to the Redeem songs (which are going somewhere into the Alter Bridge area, gain and tone-wise) etc.
I love the Emerald Demo of "jaeger28", that one sounds pretty awesome (in bridge position)

Tim

through the right amp, any pickup can sound that heavy
unless you're playing a JCM 800 or something
my bandmates handbuilt ENGL/Soldano clone can definitely do that with any guitar with humbuckers
if you really want something high output, try the nailbomb

I'm slightly tempted to sggest Crawler set as they sound really good in LP style guitars
They sound open and yet very classic
Morello tends towards a very classic rock tone at time to my ears - although he modifies the tone via Whammy pedal etc

Well, Tim recommended a calibratet Nailbomb Set to me...me likey the idea of a NB in the bridge, but in the neck position..dunno.
What is the best Neck Pickup to get a warm yet defined sound (means, no scooped shite for me) for clean stuff (splitted)
and solos (especially with a Wah-Wah). Still thinking of the Emerald..
Just so hard to decide.

Tim

Tim really knows its stuff. I recently doubted one of his recommandations (was kind of on the opposite side of what I first thought I wanted), finally decided to trust the guy  - well, I knew I could return the pups for an exchange if I was disapointed - and well, he was so right I now suspect he has some mind-reading abilities  :?

My 2 cents...
