Title: stormy in SG?
Post by: gooch on January 28, 2010, 11:38:34 AM
Hi folks

i've just ordered my first Bare Knuckle.... yay

the anticipation is killing me

i ordered a stormy monday neck for my red SG. Zebra open coils (mmmmmm..)

just wondered if anyone else has put a stormy monday in their SG?

if so, howz it sound?, i probably wont get to install it for a week or 2 :(

i really liked the ideal of having an unpowerful humbucker (you can always add distortion) so i can get some nice clean stuff in there too

Hiya Gooch,

My Stormies only 'migrated' through my S.G. for a short time, but I really liked what I heard. Very sweet and clear. They were warmer in the S.G.  than my Les Paul, but still very nice in both. As Twinfan commented at the time, it was probably the maple cap on the Les Paul that produced a brighter presentation. For all the S.G was a relative 'lightweight' compared to the Les Paul,  the all mahogany construction of the S.G's body and neck - warmed things up even more.  I can see why lower powered vintage pickups or completely the other extreme is recommended, as I can imagine the S.G. would have swallowed up the tonal attributes of the 'middle ground' pickups.

I am sure you will enjoy it,  a real gem of a pickup !  :)

Hi

I went for a set of Stormy Mondays for my VOS SG with the Alinco II. I found them too round with not enough bite. Discussed it with Tim and he kindly swapped the magnet for the Alinco IV - the guitar is now a revelation - pure Angus IMHO!

SO much more clarity (might just be my slab of wood) but the AIV work much better for me in the SG.
