Title: Building the rack! mesa/vht/martamp
Post by: Lew on February 08, 2010, 04:31:26 PM
Yo, this is the heart of the rack I'm building.

I've only had the mesa for a few hours so I'm still learning how to dial it. It's a pain in the ass to dial in too the smallest movement of anything changes everything! It's the classic Boogie sound to me. Probably needs new valves (and the 2C+ mod ).

My camera has a tiny SD card so I could only record 30 seconds and the quality's not exactly amazing on the camera but I'm pretty happy with the tone I'm getting so wanted to share. I'll do some proper recording with it in the studio at some point.

The guitar is Daves old Kramer Baretta.

Anyway...

sounds really nice - I'd like to try one of those Mesa rack preamps one day.

for now, I'm happy with my HTH 800+ which gives me everything I want with an MXR 6-band EQ and a Wah into the front end.

Ta! It's got that classic chewy Mesa mid range thing going on without being harsh. It's a good match with the el34 vht.

Dialing in tones is torture though and the EQ section is strange. The midrange does nothing at all and if the bass goes over 3 it turns into a flabby piece of shite and if you even look at the treble or volume pots it does all kinda weird shite.

That's an awesome tone you have there.

I'd love to get me one of those rigs one day  :D
