Title: NGD - can you guess what? (Feline Lion content)
Post by: FELINEGUITARS on February 14, 2010, 10:23:44 PM
So ok - I needed another guitar like a hole in the head , but I use it as an excuse for keeping my interest in my business alive and well on a selfish personal level.
It also means that I will always have certain guitars on hand for players to try out as well....

So it's a Feline Lion  with all my favourite bits:
Sperzel tuners
Earvana Nut
Rosewood board with Dunlop 6000 frets  & real MOP inlays
BKP Mule Pickups
CTS pots and Vitamin Q caps
Tonepros bridge
Tonepros split tailpiece studs and an aluminium tailpiece
Finish was supposed to be similar to PRS Tiger Eye finish - we stained the wood black and sanded off the stain - leaving it trapped in the grain , then went over with a rich amber stain giving the quite striking look you see
Body thickness is about 5mm thinner than a full depth Lion- weight is about 8.5lbs

So here she is

Here you can see the arched top

The all important all access neck joint

Even the knobs match the finish - tasty!

It's really nice Jonathan, but do the knobs only match at 10?  I think that you have got the best neck joint I've seen on a Les Paul.

We all love that neck joint!  :D

So would you say Mules are your absolute favourites for an LP?

I have just replaced the Crawlers in my Les Paul with unpotted raw nickel covered Mules - really love them.

Total winner.

Not huge fan of the top finish, I prefer a more 3d look for flame, but the back and neck joint look great. I'd love to try one of your creations one day! Will you be on Musikmesse by any chance?

MusicMesse in Frankfurt - sadly not at this rate - way too expensive to exhibit there
I want to do the London Music show again - which will now be in October, but it depends on the price once again

Still planning to do the 2010 LTD edition series (run of 10 Lions) but I need to get going with it or the year will soon be gone in a flash.

I do love Mules but not exclusively
My other Lion has a Miracle Man in the bridge and a Cold Sweat in the neck

I also really love the Crawler set, VH2s & Riff Raffs sound great and Emeralds and Rebel Yells too

But you can't go wrong with Mules and they cover a wide range of stuff too

Title: Re: NGD - can you guess what? (Feline Lion content)
Post by: FELINEGUITARS on February 16, 2010, 09:39:49 PM
So....How much?

What to sell you MY guitar ?

Or for the 2010LTD?
That will be about £3000 but will be that extra bit special and strictly limited to 10 pieces in right handed and one in leftie
We are planning a special case for it too - an Ivory coloured Hiscox!
We will find some hot looking flame tops for them
Will feature pearl inlaid headstock, Pearl/abalone/pearl split inlays on the fingerboard
Hardware will be Sperzel machineheads, Earvana Nut , Tonepros bridge and split tailpiece studs
Aluminium tailpiece.
We will use the new 550K ohm pots that Tim has had made to guarantee a minimum of 500k even allowing for tolerances. Vitamin Q capacitors, Nickel screening throughout. Switchcraft switch and jack
Pickups will be covered in a laser etched 2010 cover.
There will be two of each of 5 precious stone colours
2 Ruby Red
2 Sapphire Blue
2 Amethyst Purple
2 Emerald Green (think we've seen that before)
2 Amber
The leftie customer will be allowed to choose!

Knobs I think will be Q Parts pearl topped in colours to match the jewel finishes - like I did on my Lion and on the Emerald - Will supply vintage knobs too if requested by customer to change later.

Took a couple of group shots of the Lions that are in the workshop at the moment
The Amber ones are mine and the purple one is for one of the guys on the forum - sure we'll have a NGD after he collects it.

Here they are:

Actually now I have the darker amber Lion to use personally and to let people try out as an example of that model - I am putting the other one up for sale (the idea being that I always have to have an example in stock for customers to try out before ordering a custom build)

Expect to see it up on the site and in seconds out

Love the purple one! :D

Do all three have thinner-than-normal bodies?  It's hard to tell from the pics.  I'm wondering just how thin you could go without compromising the neck joint?

The pale amber one is full depth 9.5lbs
The dark amber is full depth and weighs 8lb 9oz
The purple burst is 4-5mm thinner and weighs 8lb 2oz

There is no weakening of the neck joint at this depth
We could go a whole cm thinner than stock and it'd still be strong although the tone may be different due to the % change of mahogany relative to the maple  on the body - one of the reasons that PRS dont sound quite like an LP

That sounds good to me - but I did wonder about the greater % of maple and the effect on tone.

I was reading about a late-'80s model called the Les Paul Custom Lite the other day - it looks nearly as thin as an SG:

Looks like you have a great guitar there (not to take anything away from the other two).  The colour is excellent, though I do like the yellow one too.
