t's got a mahogany body, maple cap (or maybe veneer), set maple neck, and a tune-o-matic/string-thru. I play modern metal, mostly tuned down a bit (drop C or so).
The Nailbomb and Warpig are the two I'm really interested in... any input?
Oh yeah... I'm probably gonna be dropping down to one guitar to be able to afford the BKs, so I need at least a half-way decent clean tone.

Hi there, :D
If your looking for good cleans I'd go for a Nailbomb...the 'pig can overdrive an amp too much for good cleans (unless you split or wire it in parallel)
Give us some tones to go on!
cheers

I play through a Boss GT-6, typicall using a Dual Recto model. Tonally, what I'm after is a combination of Helmet, Killswitch Engage, Unearth, and Meshuggah.
Basically, hella-gain, not really boosted or scooped mids, tight bass, and lots of clarity with a hint of mud 8)
I can state what I like and dislike about almost every Duncan and EMG, and many DiMarzios if that would help.

wELL,from what you said "Basically, hella-gain, not really boosted or scooped mids, tight bass, and lots of clarity with a hint of mud "
A miracle man, BUT fromthe bands you mentioned, WARPIG.
that is what i think people will say... since i donot have any BKPS YET!

The Nailbomb is a good all rounder, its got a full midrange, and very open and organic tone cleans up well and sounds awesome dirty. Theres allot of Nailbomb clips in the players room played in an Ibanez RG, including the official BKP one.
The Warpig has more saturated gain and more grind in the mids. It cleans up well too. Its output levels are comparable to an EMG 81, but less sterile and with a more natural dynamic tone.
I think the Warpig would be your kind of thing, Ive got a set in a mahogany RG and they sound fantastic.

Thanks!
I guess I'll have to try both, and go from there :)

Welcome to the forum :D
I agree with all the above suggestions although can't help thinking a Miracle Man would sound really good too. I play a custom made LP style axe, mahogany/maple combo and it's loaded with MMs and the tone always puts a smile on my face...it's got a big/tight bass which responds really quickly, great low mid power and screaming highs...........harmonics just fly out(if you can't get harmonics from a Miracle Man you shouldn't be playing guitar  )and the cleans, although from a ceramic, I don't have a problem with.Ceramics do tend to be very efficient and some claim clinical when run clean but into the right amp they produce great clean tones.
Another idea would be the new Cold Sweat humbucker.............this one is would with vintage plain enamel which produces a solid and warm mid and is powered by a special size ceramic so there's lots of power too.
As always have a listen in the players room and you can always PM/email me if you want to go into more detail.

Thanks for the help everybody!
I have a feeling I'm gonna have to do what I did with Duncan, DiMarzio & EMG.... basically go through all of 'em till I find what I'm looking for. Unfortunately, going through all the BKs is just gonna cost a little more :)

Talk to me and it shouldn't take too long.................and it'll be worth it too :D !

For the music you play, i would say a Warpig. Probably the greatest pickup ever for down tuned playing. Very nice clean sound too.
Oh yeah, welcome to the forum.
BTW, I can hardly wait for the Painkiller clips.

The Miracle man would be good, it would keep the tight bottom end needed for Meshuggah and Killswitch. The cleans wouldn't be so natural, but they aren't bad!
-
couldn't he get, say, a miracle man bridge, and say a nailbomb neck, to cope better with cleans?
and what amp do you have?
-
I run through a Boss GT-6 into (at home) a tiny practice amp, or straight into the effects return of my drummer's Peavey stack (some solid-state 100 watt deal). The GT-6 is typically set to the Dual Rectifier, Soldano, or Marshall Hi-gain models.
I listened to some clips, and I'm really liking both the Nailbomb and Warpig.
