I was just clicking on it, then I saw the warning.... but I watched it anyway (well, most of it).  :|

It is a lovely guitar - my birth year too.

([sniff] "That's not cocaine!"    :? )

Sounds amazing!!

EDIT:
I may be wrong, but this sounds more punch and with more mass than the Riff Raff clips I've heard... Am I right or it's just the amp that give this fuller tone? This is really how I wanted a SG sound, only the neck pickup I think it's a little bit muddy for my taste, would be looking for something more alike the bridge but sweetier...
What you guys think?

It's a lot to do with the amp Fernando.  My SG with Riff Raffs through a cranked Martamp sounds HUGE!

I still have my original 64 SG Standard plus a 61 reissue with Riff Raffs and would say it's mostly down to the amp he was using. Brought tears to my eyes when I compared the delapidated state of mine with this one  PDT_013. Only the original neck pickup still works (going to get round to sending both to Tim for rewind to oriinal spec - one was already rewound by John Birch in the 70s). I still have the original ABR1 bridge including the 3 worn out 'plastic' saddles they were using for the top three strings during this period. One thing I would like to replace is the chrome plating I had done on the pickup covers and tailpiece - well who would have thought back then that worn faded nickel would be cool  :?
One thing I always notice on most this period SG reissues is they get the top horn shape wrong - it finishes in a point, not the chisel shape of the bottom horn.

Guitar looks in great condition for a 64 (I would say that wouldn't I) - I do enjoy Phil X's dems  :D (Sorry PhillyQ!)

I'm giving up moaning about him, you lot all love him.  I know when I'm beat!

(But don't be surprised if he suddenly dies in a bizarre gardening accident.  I will have an alibi.)

I believe if Phil X ever gardens it would be by accident... & I'm very sure it would be bizarre!!

Doesn't pay well enough.  He wouldn't let me have any guitars, and I wasn't interested in the drugs.

Am I going to the the lone voice of dissent when I say that I don't think that Gibson SGs look very cool?

Even Phil "I'm So Cool, Peoples Tongues Stick To Me" X can't make them look cool.

They just don't look right strapped on.  Les Pauls do.  Strats do.  Yamaha SGs to.  But Gibson SGs just don't look right...

... having said that, I just managed to listen to Part 2 of the clip, and that AC/DC tone is GODLY!

Still don't like the look of them though...

No no.  Clearly you're mistaken and need to up your medication a little, Dave.  Yam SGs are cool.  And make you more attractive to women.

I cracked up when I read Philly's, and I also wondered about "scripts". After Mr X saying he did requests (for guitars) I seriously considered finding out how to contact him, sending this in with a little explanation, and seeing if we could get him to perform it and then dedicate a guitar review to his "biggest fan in the UK, my namesake, Mr Phil Q"

(I couldn't be arsed to put the effort in though )

And how could anyone not like an SG (apart from Les Paul, obviously)???!

There's two special guitar shapes for me - the strat, and the SG (a b&w picture of Vince Melouny playing one in a 1968 Bee Gees songbook is the first time I saw one, and I've loved the shape ever since).

I have to admit though, like a suit, you've got to know how to wear an SG, and I didn't think Phil X looked particularly comfortable with one.

EDIT: Yamaha SGs on the other hand, to me, have always just looked like a slightly overweight foreigner trying to look cool like a Les Paul and failing rather badly (many apologies to Yammie SG lovers, I know there are many...)

SGs are awesome, think I'm starting to prefer mine to my LPs. More streamlined/comfortable with better upper fret access and they sound just as good.

I probably look incredibly uncool with mine but I love playing it :) Just needs a good setup and some better pickups as I've already got a bit tired of the fake Gibson sound compared to BKPs.

Thanks Andy, but oh lord that would've been embarrassing!

SGs.... I've said it a million times before, but just for the record I love the Gibson shape to bits.

As for the Yamaha, I see what you mean about the "slightly overweight foreigner" ( ).  The body shape is a little clunky but I think everything else - the ebony board, the inlays, the through-neck, even the gold hardware - is absolutely awesome.  If they'd only make an SG2000 with a thinner body so it was about two pounds lighter.... I'd buy one in a heartbeat, money no object, I really would.

Out!

Honestly, there are better looking guitars, but they sound fantastic and anyway I don't think they look that bad - pretty cool some would say ;)

i think one of my mates has some.   He had a 76 'the paul' that came fitted with EMG's.

we ripped them out and put the original t-tops back in.  It instantly sounded much better but i think it was still a little hot for him.   Not sure if he sold it on or not

It sounds OK but c'mon it aint that great

Maybe I'm too aggressive and heavy handed but SG's feel like toys to me and it feels like I'm gonna rip the neck out of the body. The necks move around tons too!
