Title: HSH Ibanez wiring question.
Post by: phlip on February 25, 2010, 06:03:04 PM
Hi,
I've got a Miracle Man Bridge waiting for me at the Post Office   :D :D

I've opened up the back of my New Ibanez and EEK. I've done lots of PUP replacements For Les Pauls in my too many years but this is a different beast of complexity (Purely as I've never done a 5 way before).

The original wiring schematic is This I believe http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h90/s2170/W03006CHSHB11L5.gif

The Switching is
Bridge
Bridge Inner coil + SC
SC
SC + Neck Inner coil
Neck

So which colour corresponds in Ibanez to BKP?
I'm guessing red Sheath is Neck and Green is Bridge purely from the Length and Thick White is the SC.

I'm hoping it's just a simple 2 wire + ground swap  :?
Am I right in thinking that
Solder BKP red to where Ibanez Red is/was
Solder BKP White/Green to where Ibanez White Is/Was

According to the original diagram, Red seems to be the hot of those humbuckers, while white wire is the tap wire (to split the humbucker) so, in my opinion, you should:

1) wire BKP's red whre the IBZ's red was
2) wire BKP's white & green where IBZ's white was
3) ground BKP's black and bare wires

Above is typically correct - except you may find that the combo is out of phase in position 2 (thin and reedy rather than the normal strat like sound
If that is the case reverse the red and black wires

Ahh that is exactly what I have. I'm not a big pos 2 user so just ignored it for the time being. Next Time I have the Soldering iron out I'll do the swap and see what it's like.
No other side effects from that I assume?

Other than that the Miracle Man sounds absolutely stunning in this guitar.
