Title: pcb cleaner
Post by: Dmoney on February 26, 2010, 01:52:12 PM
I just got some of this from maplin and had a squirt to break down some flux.
it worked mostly,
but it left a residue on the pcb, which it claims it isn't meant to do.
its a bit sticky and trying to clean it off is more messy than leaving it.

anyone had a similar experience? can i get away with not cleaning this off? is it conductive?

words of wisdom would be much appreciated. im a bit annoyed with this stuff now. grr

My experience of the flux cleaner hasn't been too special either.

I usually clean the PCB with IPA afterwards, but it is bit of a pain.

Maybe we're doing someting wrong!

Hey
I popped out and got some IPA from a chemist. had to get a 500ml bottle but its still cheaper than getting the same stuff from maplin or whatever.
got a 99p toothbrush too.
my boards look much better now! still some build up from the maplin PCB cleaner but its looking much better.
just left them for a bit now. one was a bit sticky but i guess some of the IPA may still need to evaporate off.
much happier now though

I use 'pre-injection' swabs like they have in hospitals to clean the injection site - they contain alcohol and work a treat.  I figure I'm clean enough not to warrant use of such swabs when I do my twice-weekly injections (health reasons, not scag before anyone has a wise crack).

thats a good plan.
my board looks better.
in the light the surface looks 'worn'? but its just the surface. hard to explain.
the joints are shiny as hell though

fair point, but I've never even contemplated using that sh*t - life is complicated enough as it is.
