I have just got a classic 60's strat with Custom '69 pickups. These aren't RWRP so out goes the middle pick up! What would be the nearest rwrp replacement middle single-coil? Thanks
-
I haven't got much experience of them but perhaps the mothers milk will be a god match. I'm actually not sure if many (any?) of the regulars have mm's. Tim's the man to talk to.
And welcome to the forum!

Hmm yeah that is a good suggestion Ian. I am thinking late 1960's BKPs and the other thought I had was Slowhands. Oh and welcome from me too.
-
I would be tempted to say Mothers milk
They give a really good Hendrixy sound IMO and I'm sure that is the direction that the 69 customs assume as well
Burt once again Tim would be the best person to ask for comparison purposes

I'm sure Tim will rewind it RWRP if you ask him

The problem would be reversing the polarity as you would have to completely disassemble the pickup which just isnt practical or always sucessful....

I wonder how well an RWRP middle will work in this set anyway, given the huge DC difference between the bridge and other pickups (13k vs ~ 5.6K). It will work with the neck, but perhaps it is a deliberate choice by Tim. I have a set and it doesn't bother me (then again I lots of Strats that don't have RWRP middle pickups). If you just got them, I would have a word with Tim to see what he recommends.

the fender stock custom'69s seem to be a sensible 5.7 so, answering my own question, I think it's a toss-up between the 'apache' or the 'sultans'.
-
If think you also need to check with Tim over what would actually be RWRP with respect to another manufacturer's pickups.
I think I've read somewhere before that different makers go different directions, so if you're putting a BKP between two others, you might conceivably need a "stock" BKP to get RWRP with the other two.

Good thinking, Batman...

The equivalent set in terms of construction to the Fender CS69s is the Mother Milk set - i.e. staggered mags, plain enamel wire, alnico V, 5.8k. If you want it early 60s - Tim makes a 62 strat set that is in that ballpark but has formvar wire.

true, although i once had a similar problem with my slowhands and tim took pity on me and offered a very reasonable price to sort it all ok - even renewed the warranty

My mistake here - I thought you had the new Bare Knuckle 69 Strat set (13k, 5.6, 5.6 AV).

13K?

anybody know anything about re-magnetising a pick-up? i.e. reversing it's given polarity!!!??? I've read some threads about passing a pu between strong magnets.

CS '69's are very round and vintage to my ears. Mothers milk do not sound the same, they are leaner and woodier.
I think Apache's would sound closest but that's a guess as I've never tried Apache's. But certainly mothers milk do not sound close IMO
