Title: Centre Pickup for Nashville Tele
Post by: daznic on March 09, 2010, 03:26:34 PM
Hi all,
I have a lovely `98 MIM Nashville Telecaster with some Bareknuckle Yardbirds on the way !
The centre strat pickup is a great addition to this guitar, but IMO spoils the looks.
I would like to change it for a mothers milk maybe,  I would also like to cover it with an enclosed black cover to go against my new black pickguard.
To fit an enclosed cover, I will have to get a pickup with flat pole pieces, not staggered.
How will this affect the guitar tone, if at all ?

Unless anyone else has actually tried this on here, I've got a feeling this might be a question for Tim at BKP.

You'll like the Yardbirds, and I think a Mother's Milk would fit in nice with them. But what happens over the pole-pieces and wotnot, I've no idea!

(And I have to admit, I've been tempted by the tones, but an additional strat pickup just don't look quite right to me either )

I think I've heard of some people going for two tele neck pickups? If you like the idea of that look, when you get the Yardbird neck, you'll find it's really sweet and clear, and it might actually be a candidate for middle pickup duties? Another possibility would be the Blackguard neck, which lots of people say sounds very stratty... something else to think about maybe?

And welcome to the forum :D

AndyR,
Thanks very much for your ideas & warm welcome to this forum !

I guess It may be best making a phone call to the guys at BKP,  I`m thinking that I may lose a bit of clarity or volume in having the pickup covered with flat poles,  maybe a hotter pickup or P90 would be best suited ?

& I`m really looking forward to getting the Yardbirds in !  :D
