Looking at this it's all to easy to see who Peter Green took as a role model, but the "pupil" excelled and rather delightfully, a few years ago, BB King said that Peter Green was the only guitarist who could make him cry.

Thanks for posting that inspiring gem ; B.B.King has probably been my biggest influence over the years, and whatever else I was 'into' - he remained the 'King' in my book. As you said, his direct influence can be heard in so many guitarists famous in their own right . I had the ( un-expected ) pleasure of being allowed backstage at the Edinburgh Playhouse in 1982 - and sat in during his press interview. After they filtered out, he called ( a very over-awed) me forward, and warmly volunteered to give me both a signed photograph, and the plectrum he had played with that night ( Still on my wall I hasten to add ! ) :D
As U.K. readers will appreciate , this idea of meeting and greeting - seems not as accessible or prevalent round these isles. A true / sincere Gent, who's grasp of the concept 'stage show' ( along with his legendary 'Orchestra' ) is masterful too. A teenager I know saw him only last year, and even at a tired 83, held the open arena enthralled with story telling, humour, and playing that still pins your heart to the back wall .
When B.B.King leaves us, I will indeed be sad - as it will not only be the passing of an 'old friend' and long distance teacher , but an enduring example of how " Turning Lemons into lemonade " can be made to sound such fun - long after the event. From the relentless sweat of the cotton fields, to the relentless adoration of all that penetrate the value of the man. :D

great vid, i'm not a big fan but love his rhythmic sense and that 'majory' idiom(mixolydian?) that he generall plays
in.and wow what a beautiful voice, he's gettin' on a bit now , but i didn't realise he sang so well.

I am a big B.B. King fan. I have learnt a lot about blues and playing blues by listening to his music and also listening to a lot of his stories. I had the pleasure of seeing B.B. King at Wembley last year, and I thought he was phenominal. He had plenty of old time stories to tell and his playing is still top notch at his age, 83 I believe. As Fourth Feline said, it will indeed be a very sad day when B.B. King leaves us. He is truley an ispirational musician and without a doubt the King of the blues :)

Makes me laugh when the bands today cancel shows becuase of exhaustion when BB King did 300 shows a year until he was 80, and that's with him having diabetes. Look at his gig schedule now, it's still more than some bands.
He's an example to us all, playing for the love of it!

I didn't know he had diabetes, bless him.

B B is truly a great player and a massive influence. I have an nice autograph from him as well as a B B King lapel badge from him. My Brother has a very nice Gibson Lucille special edition.

I was fortunate enough to visit the BB King Blues Club in New York a couple of years ago, I thought it was a great club, great food, and some very nice BB King memorabilia. I tried one of those Gibson Lucilles once and thought it was a really nice sounding instrument and felt great to play, wish I had bought it now as they are becoming quite hard to find... maybe one day...

You've gotta love old Beeb haven't you. His heart is even bigger than his belly.

The good man can't play a chord to save his life but no-one has a touch and vibrato like him.
Lovely guy.

Wow... as i sat down to watch that clip the missus brought in the mixing bowl she'd used whilst baking a cake... i've just sat through it all in absolute heaven eating filth and listening in bliss, what a king... reminds me that playing what's in your heart is where it's at, we don't need to play to impress technically.
Cheers for posting choucas09.

Good man Chev, that's what I like to hear, ENTHUSIASM.

I like it when BB gets worked up a little and puts some grit in his playing, here's some great performances...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwC0Jo8fAxs&feature=related (with Bobby Bland)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bdLZFx6CDf8&feature=related (BB does Elmore, very cool)
And just because he was great (and I 'feel' his playing more), some Albert King...
