Title: Quantifiable fretboard mastabation.. Or worst idea ever?
Post by: phlip on March 31, 2010, 12:52:44 PM
Does anyone think this could be a good idea? http://shredometer.com/ could be a good idea. Lets forget about Phrasing and feel and see who can cram in the most notes...

The inventor should be shot :P

I like a bit of shred but fast for fasts sake is so so wrong.

yeh, utterly stupid bit of rubbish. why must we measure everything?if your the fastest player why do you need to
prove it with a device?i'm faster than you, i earn more than you, i'm top of my class....what a sorry state of affairs.
better to have a machine that gives you a shock when you play a bum note or out of time... now i could use one of them!

It's very hard to believe this is real, who the hell would buy something so retarded?

I'd be interested to use it as a metronome; often I find it more difficult to discern the click over my guitar as I play (unless I'm using a click from a source of comparable amplitude) so having a visual representation of my accuracy could potentially be handy for practicing licks.

If it could be re-worked to tap out rhythms then it could be a very useful tool for getting more complex syncopated timings going with the needle representing how ahead or behind the note you are.

Actually I do like visual metronomes, I have a racktuner which does the pendulum swinging type display and it's much easier to follow than a click alone. I tend to think it'd be really disconcerting though having something telling you how fast you were playing, rather than just how fast to play. Dunno, probably shouldn't knock it until I've tried it, but then again with a name like 'shredometer' I wouldn't be seen dead with the thing!

If you really care how many notes per second youre playing, why not calculate it?

I mean, its about as hard to do as it is important.
