I'm looking to get a second tele and there are two for sale near me one being a Mexican fender body (standard) with an American neck for 350 and then theres a japanese Fernandez that is semi hollow and standard else wise. Currently i have a tele that a standard custom tele but with a humbucker in the neck so i kinda want one that is single coil neck so either fit but ive never tried a semi-hollow tele, what do they sound like? Are they warmer or brighter? just curious because either could work just wanted to get some opinions on this idea. Both have maple necks the only major difference is the hollowed bit and the Fernandez has 3 saddle bridge of what looks like steel (http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee247/popsongsmith/tele2.jpg) could be wrong and here is the other (http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c117/Tonyfatbaloney/cool1.jpg) both look nice and i really dig the paisley guard so that leans me towards that one but if the tone is sweet in the other then the guard alone isnt gunna make a guitar lol ya know? Ideas? =)

Also what about the prospect of a rosewood neck? How would that sound and work with the brightness of the tele? I'm kinda excited lol =) I could also go the route of finding a cheaper american neck and cheaper american body and mash em together, so that is another option. =)

I like the look of the Fernandes. I am really unsure about what pups to suggest though.

I'd get the thinline. They're a bit more 335-ish if that makes sense?

I had a good blast on the Fender thinline when I was shopping for my CV Tele, I couldn't aford it but wanted to give it a blast.
It had a great woody tone but was still absolutely a Tele, there was just a bit depth and extra resonance to it which was very nice. I would certainly like one myself after that test.

Twinfan what do you mean more 335ish? lol I have a Sheraton II, so i also dont want to creep into her territory cuz she will murder me if i dont play her lol 0=) How does it compare to a normal tele? What changes with the semi hollow aspect? Does it just get thinner?

My Thinline sounded a bit more acoustic-like if that makes sense, like a 335 does compared to an SG or Les Paul. Still sounded like a Tele, but with some roundness to it......

oh man! I think i found a gold mine! =) " 1967 Neck w/ red 80's Japanese body. Has schaller tuners, EMG pickups and case. " for $750. y'all think it's a scam? I asked for close up pictures especially of the neck serials, i couldn't care if the body is a japanese Fender but it would be nice to know it is.

what do y'all think? perhaps this one? I pray i can scrounge the money because not only is it a '67 neck that is worth that by itself but 80's to mid 90's is my fav time for fender other then 70 and younger and ive never actually owned anything that old of Fender or anything Fender Japanese lol and call me psycho but i'm kinda fender freak. And then i'd definitely take those rotten EMG's out and put in some proper pickups; Bare knuckles that is =) lol duh.

I'm in the same position looking for a second Tele (to go with my H1 Tele) . I'm tempted with a Thinline just cause it gives me access to some different sounds.

I agree! I'm thinking of selliny my Sheraton and getting a thinline 0=)
