I liked to listen to his playing on Ella Fitzgerald's stuff when I wanted to hear something different to what I normally play

Sad news.
Herb was a great talent and a real legend when he played with Oscar Peterson.

Glad you posted that, I like the stuff he did with Ella too, plus the guitar model Gibson made for him has been on my wish list for some time.  Was a good man and had some great times I'm sure.
