Title: wiring problem

ok so I'm re-wiring couple of my strats so that the bridge & middle pickups work off the bottom tone & the neck runs from tone up from there. I've used the following schematic

but when I've run everything through & tested it, the neck tone seems to be working as a volume control as well....any ideas peeps, I've double checked my wiring, but can't see what the hell I've done. Any ideas greatfully received...as long as they don't include the line "you idiot you've...", as I already know I am

been a while since ive played a strat.
is the neck tone the middle pot?

if so, one thing that looks different between your wiring and the schematic to me is...
on that tone control it looks like you have the lug soldered to the pot casing, and therefore to ground.
you also have the cap between the centre lug on the other tone, and ground (other pot's casing)

your back end tone pot probably works because as you turn the pot you're still getting frequencies to ground via the cap.
But with the middle pot, you have a direct connection to ground if that lug is soldered to the pot casing.

If i'm right, you need to take off that cap and stick it between the pot casing and the lug you have soldered to the pot casing, and the connect that lug to the centre lug on the other pot.


of course I might be totally wrong.

You're totally right, and this is a pretty common mistake especially when re-using pots. Disconnect that lug from the pot casing but leave the capacitor on it (the lug not the casing) and test it again :)
