Post by: tomjackson on April 12, 2010, 04:06:17 PM

Hmmm...  Interesting, as is much of the "stuff" around Dawkins.  Can't bring myself to like the man though.

Its exactly the right thing to do.

Imagine if Gordon Brown or Fabio Capello had done the same thing and covered up molestation of kids by backbenchers or midfielders. They'd be crucified, rightly so, and this is no different.

As I've noted above, neither Dawkins or Hitchens have any intention of getting the Pontiff arrested, but fingers crossed, the lawyers who are looking into the possibilities manage to generate a suitable amount of publicity and outrage that we A) Save 20 million quid and B) Generate such hysteria that the story (and source of it) reaches some of the developing Catholic nations, who'll be rather in the dark about ANY of the church's abuse scandals.

Slightly off topic, the cover of Private Eye at the moment is quite amusing.

I thought it a bit below PE to be honest, it's like a gag kids would make to noise up the catholics at school 20 years ago.

None of the replies since your corrective link (thanks btw) say that it is dawkins and hitchens. No need to labour it.

Its the right thing to do, no matter whos doing it.

Good points btw. Its appalling that people can be shielded from punishment for some of the most vile crimes conceivable by belief, the club they belong to and the power people think it has/allow it.

I dont expect it will go very far, but people saying this and pushing it forward is a step in the right direction.

It's much easier to say '$%&# the Pope' than it is to say '$%&# the Moderator of the general assembly of the church of Scotland'

But if you were a catholic priest, and you $%&#ed the moderator of the general assembly of the church of scotlands grandson, then the popes got your back.

surely a facebook campaign could sort this mess out and bring those responsible to trial?

+

If one can give rage against the machines career 5 minutes more life then a facebook campaign can do anything

Edit - I have facebook blocked as a keyword on my router because I hate the $%&#ing thing and forbid people that come round my place from going on it, and this post was blocked

Selfpwnt.

The point in repeating it was that no one is trying to have him arrested at all (well, at least not in Britain). Just to block him visiting the UK.

Bah, I'll take your word for it, hadnt slept in 40 hours when reading it, and about 24 now. I probably shouldnt debate anything. Especially with my router.
