I've been keeping this one under my hat for a while now because it's just been a lump of wood and my imagination but work has started to move a bit faster on it now, so...!
The neck in the pics is a different customers - it's just used to show how it looks with a neck on - the neck blanks are my wood (scheduled to be finished off next week). The body is off to the finisher this week 8)

VERY tasty! Who's the builder?
-
Great stuff! Keep us posted (all puns intended).
-
that looks very N4-ish....nice job man!
-
Sweet!
Looking forward to the next instalment!
-
The builder is Scott Fletcher of Jet City guitars in Seattle - small shop of five staff. I found him whilst browsing the gear page. He makes Wolfgang clones too.

Nice looking guitars! But is it cost-effective to buy a US custom build, what with VAT, import duty and unfavourable exchange rates?
-
Yes.
-
You've lost me.
-
Post will make more sense now
Not sure where you were lost, though 8)
-
very nice :D

I understand it now. But you were talking about things like exchange rates etc being in your favour.... which they weren't. Unless you're a partner in Jet City Guitars. :P
-
1 GBP = 1.52497 USD. I consider that in my favour :)
-
Yeah, but 2 years ago 1 GBP = 1.9965 USD.....
Anyway, shut up Phil, glad you're getting a good deal Lew.

haha, man! Yea I know what ya mean. You scared the shite out of me though, I REALLY panicked and was googling exchange rates like a mad man in case you knew something I didn't

Nah, I was just saying that by ordering from the US you'd be suffering costs you wouldn't have to pay if it was a UK builder. But I guess the basic price must be a lot less! :)
-
That birdseye is SICK!!! :o
-
Ta for the comments :)
Philly, just got the invoice - $1600
Anyone used the Tonepros AVT2 bridge? That's what it's getting. The body should have gone to the finisher now for it's silverburst finish (front and back) :D
-
Sounds a good price indeed! :D
I've got an AVT2, it's a good unit. Very, very similar to the Pigtail wraparound, but not as lightweight (the Pigtail is aluminium).

I contacted Blackmachine about buying a B6 too but he still hasn't got back to me. Scott wanted to use the Hipshot bridge at first. I'm looking forward to seeing the finish - I gave him these pics as reference.

Oh no :(
-
oh yes :D
-
oh yes :D
Well, that's your guitar anyway :D
-
and purple strat knobs :p
-
Purple strat knobs on silverburst? :?
-
Ye and just in-case things aren't already going to be gawdy enough, the headstock is going to be black with a silver logo :p
-
oh you mean you're getting the one in the first pic done in silverburst finish? i got really confused for a minute there.
-
Yea, haha. He's fretting the neck today :o
-
I really like the silverburst finish, but something tells me that Lew is going to have a less than tasteful approach to the hardware - purple knobs, oh dear
$1600 for a custom guitar is good going too, can't grumble about that - don't know how anyone can run a business (at a reasonable profit) and knock out handmade guitars for that kind of cash.
-
less than tasteful is my middle name
It works out at a good deal 'cause of the exchange rate but the price is about normal for a bolt-on isn't it?
He uses CNC to cut everything and outsources to a local finisher. So the most labored part is likely the assembly and fretting? I think he sells carved top/set neck etc... closer to 2500.

Awesome! :D
-
Thats really nice - like the dark rosewood particularly...
-
Nice that you noticed that - I made him dig through all his wood to find the darkest piece haha 8)
-
Its lovely - well worth the effort of digging it out :)
-
Update!! Looks like he has nailed the finish :D

-
That looks mighty cool! :D
I don't know why, but on the Strat-like body shape the silverburst puts me in mind of '80s Aria guitars!
-
Before my time  :P
All hardware is nickel and the pups have nickel covers (mounted straight to body). Hope it works as well as I imagine it too without being too silver.
-
Very nice. Though I would have thought black hardware would be better. :?
-
If it had a Floyd and EMGs, yea :P
-
Beautiful! But I would also go with black hardware on that one...
-
I reckon the nickel will look really great + it looks great when it ages. He thinks it should be ready by the end of next week :o
-
Here it is finished and soon on its way to me. Well, to be used as a football by the mail system first :-p
The pics are a bit dark and the purple knobs are still in transit - I may use green anyway :p
Anyway... ! :D

Looking good! Don't go spoiling it with purple or green knobs!
(I think I would try SG-style reflector knobs)
-
That may work, was thinking of Tele knobs, too.
-
That looks excellent Lew... are you sure you chose that spec? I agree ref the reflector knobs.... I really like that one!
-
Cheeky bugger
-
Never seen a burst like that on a Strat type.... I'll take that off you if you don't bond with it! 8)
Looking forward to your review when it arrives.
-
I was a bit unsure with the "in progress" pics, but that actually looks really swish now it's been put together. Not sure about the purple knobs, though. How about silver?
-

They aren't common on Strat alikes. The one in this vid looks rather good http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SBg_UOx1JOE and this one http://www.ernieball.com/forums/music-man-guitars/33750-petrucci-silverburst-ball-family-reserve-one-off.html
I don't really do reviews, it'll either be great, good, meh or naff :-p

Don't ya think there's too much silver going on all ready, though?
-
nah, i think it'd be all right. Time to hit up kisekae or photoshop, i think :D obviously do that before spending any money.
the stock knobs look fine to me. or as philly says, sg reflector knobs. Or just black speed knobs.
:)
-
Very nice. Im tending to agree with Philly. No need for purple knobs.
-
Argh, it's stuck in customs :s bet they charge me, they always do. Check out another of Scotts recently finished guitars, looks SICK :o

That's gorgeous :)
I'd like it even more if the body was an Musicman Axis shape, but I am imagining I'm playing some Nuno riffs on it right now 8)
-
[take piss]
Needs purple knobs
[/taking the piss]
-
Argh, it's stuck in customs :s bet they charge me, they always do.
They're plugging it into that amp that went missing as we speak.
It's looking real good, bet you can't wait to get your hands on it.
-

It'd be a miracle if they didn't. I've got away with some DVDs and guitar parts, but they'd have to be pretty incompetent to miss some $%ing great box with a guitar in it.

I'm still in debate on purple vs pink for the silverburst :-p

-
Well tis here and is $%ing righteous! I'll try and take some decent pics the ones taken so far do it no justice.

happily Philly, i got the incompetent ones once! got a gibson les paul deluxe through with no charges :)
of course, they made up for it with all the charges on various dvds and such :(
looks like i have the opposite experience to you
-
oh, and another vote for the reflector knobs. that guitar looks great, familiar yet totally different. nice one :)
-
Obviously I'm not a skilled photographer but these pics show off the actual finish better!
The guitar is really light, a little lighter than my old Vigier even. And it's really loud acoustically - not had a chance to plug it in yet. The better half is on nights at the mo and probably wouldn't appreciate the wake up call :-p
I dunno about reflector knobs, I reckon some simple Tele knobs are what it needs.
-
you could be right, i'd say we're all thinking reflector knobs because they fit with the silverburst les paul custom look
-
That is a great finish!
I still say reflector knobs rather than Tele knobs. I think you need a bit more black on there to go with the outer edges of the sunburst. :)
-
Yea, I get ya both. I'll try both types out. Scott likes the finish so much that he's called it 'Black Mamba' and is making it a regular finish 8)
-
Tele knobs looked cr@p :s
-
Ive got some chrome dome knobs with MOP inlaid caps - also some black come knobs the same

I have some of the black centred chrome Tele style knobs on my Tele. Looks like this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mr_atrocity/3870705209/in/set-72157622033583673/ (http://www.flickr.com/photos/mr_atrocity/3870705209/in/set-72157622033583673/). I think they're a great not too traditional, not too outré option. Love the finish on your guitar there by the way. Very nice indeed.

sweet :D

So this is now for sale?
Why? :? You just got it!
-
Not out of choice. I've been unemployed for a month, and the mortgage company don't give a rats ass if I want to keep my guitars are not. I've managed to get a job this week, though - alot quicker than I thought I would! The sooner I can get through the bureaucracy and the start the job the better. Who knows I may even be able to keep hold of gear. + the water heater died a week ago and I've been having cold baths, d'oh! And I woke up this morning and.... the wife was still there :-p
OH WOE IS ME
-
Sorry to here about geting layed off. Glad you have got sorted with another job. Hope you like the new job.
-
I'm sorry to hear things are so tough.. I'm sure some good times are ahead.
-

That's a good wife, for sure!!!!
I'm sorry to hear things are going bad for you, hope you can get it better with this new job!!!
-
Ah, things will be fine when I get that first paypacket, I didn't mean to be so melodramatic. And cold baths are actually quite refreshing + you get out of them and your hot instead of cold :-p

Forgot that there is summer... Here is winter...
-
Yea, it's been very hot and humid here (by UK standards)!
