Title: Cold Sweat?

You guys think these would be the shiteeeeeznitz in a Caparison Angelus 24?
It's made of mahogany with maple cap (almost LPC thickness), mahogany neck and ebony fretboard. I have currently a D-Sonic/AirNorton there but the D-Sonic sounds too harsh and compressed in this one (it's better on my Horus).

I play through an Engl Savage 120 and a 1960B cab (X-pattern V30s and T75s). Mostly death/modern/melodic metal rhythm and leads but I also like to jam less gainy stuff too. I usually tune in to Db standard or Drop B.


So could a Cold Sweat set be the thing for me? I've had the Nailbombs in an Edwards LPC I used on our album (http://www.reverbnation.com/unsphered) (sold now) but I'd like something a tad different this time. I'm not too fond of overkill output/compressed pickups.

I have a bridge Cold Sweat in a SG with a mahogany back and neck, maple cap and ebony board (similar construction to your guitar) and it sounds great! It's a bright sound, but never harsh, also VERY articulate and defined. I play hard rock through a JCM800 type amp and it handles high gain with ease. Tight but organic bottom end.  :)

Hi,

how's the guitars acoustic sound? If it's on the warmside , the CS would probably work very well. I have to admit, I haven't got any guitars with an ebony fretboard, so I don't know exactly its reaction to the CS.

Could you give us some reference tones?

acoustically the guitar pretty bright and loud overall so I'm thinking the HD or NB might be more suitable... plugged in it's quite big on the lower register also.

I'm really into Jon Schaffer's punchy, percussive rhythm tones and also C. Broderick's lead tones. I tend to like middy pickups and tones more.

Main reason I'm steering away the D-sonic is that it's too bright and harsh for this guitar in Db standard, and it really isn't all too bright pickup.




edit: I got an offer to trade the D-sonic/Airnorton set for a NB(b)/HD(n) set, direct trade. I think I'll try this route :)

I'd avoid Cold Sweats in a bright guitar. They're not harsh sounding at all, but they are bright and very present, even in a pretty balanced-sounding guitar. I'd be looking closely at Holy Divers, personally.

Have a look at a Miracle man
Because it has a ceramic magnet it still has that uber-tight low end but its fuller in the mids and not so open sounding
You can either mix it with a Cold Sweat neck for vintagey tones or a Miracle man neck if you want a more shreddy neck pickup
