Title: A/B switch
Post by: 38thBeatle on April 28, 2010, 11:13:57 PM
Ok you knowledgeable gents, I am toying with the idea of getting an A/B switch to enable me to change guitars during a set with the minimum of messing around. I know nothing of these devices- the Boss AB2 looks like a candidate but are there any others you'd suggest. I don't want to get too anal about it but I need something reliable and not too dear. Thanks a plenty.

Strictly speaking it's an ABC switch, but I love my Lehle 3@1 - so much so that I've got two of 'em

It's a fantastic useful tool that enables quick quiet guitar changes.  Yes, it's expensive, but it's whisper quiet, works with just about any power supply (for the LEDs) & is very well built.

Have you ever tried "Silent" jacks? Eg: http://www.theleadsfactory.co.uk/connectors/neutrik_tips_silent.html (http://www.theleadsfactory.co.uk/connectors/neutrik_tips_silent.html)

I've tried ones designed like that, or ones with a push-push switch on the side.

They both conk out sooner or later, but I prefer the ones with a push-push switch (couldn't find an example in the limited time avail at the mo).

Might be a different solution?

Thanks for further contributions: Red Onion seemingly no longer trade. The silent Jack idea crossed my mind Andy but for me the emphasis is on taking one guitar off and putting on another without unplugging and plugging. The Lehle look quality but is a bit too pricey. I might check out This1ismine though he is US based and by the time I factor in shipping etc...well I'll have a think. I guess I could make one but I am so tied up with stuff at the moment I can't see me getting to it anytime soon.

IIRC, Th1sismyne's international shipping is only $7us for the smaller pedals like the switcher 8)

another one is Monkeyfx.  he will make you pretty much anything you need as regards switchers, and his prices are very good.  he did take a break for a while there, but i think he's back up and running.  certainly worth having a look, and he always seems to answer e-mails very quickly.

Try this:

The Radial gear is top quality! I use the Switchbone to ABY switch between 2 heads...best pedal I own!

Hi 38th.  I've got a AB pedal that I never.  It's been sitting on a shelf for the past 2 years gathering dust, someone might as well use it.  I think it is a Red Onions one.  If you reimburse me the postage then you can have it for nowt. :)

Edit: Sorry, I've re-read your post and it's not much use to you.  The one I've got is 1 input to 2 outputs, more of an amp-switcher than guitar switcher.

will it not work in the other direction as well?
I built a loop switcher from less than £10 from bits at maplin.
that worked as a loop switch and bi-directionally as a 1in 2out or 2in 1out switch.
