I'm looking to upgrade my pickups in my Ibanez RG guitar, the ones that I seem to like the most are the Rebel Yell and the Holy Diver but i'm not sure if they'll be too bright . I play 1980's-1990's classic metal of the Scorpians, George Lynch and Randy Rhoads variety. The pickup also needs to clean up well when the volume is backed off. I'm not sure about which middle and neck pickup to look yet, other than to say i'd like a more open sounding pickup in the neck postition and a stratty type pickup in the middle position, but I don't want too much of a volume drop when switching from the bridge to the neck pickup. I also don't want a too high power single coil pickup. Any help and pointers would be greatly appreciated. :D

Well I put Ceramic Warpigs with a Trilogy middle in my Basswood Jem.
V Pleased with the result:

The Trilogy middle has loads of output & if you set the pickup heights right there is almost no volume changes between the 3 pickups.
Also the Warpigs have a surprisingly sweet clean tone & do clean up with the volume backed off.

Sounds nice, but it's just not quite there. The trilogy sounds nice though an right up my street, i'm guessing that's a Malmsteen type pickup, I have A Dimarzio YJM (Malmsteen model) which lovely, but the volume drop between pickups is huge! Still that's not to say it would be the same with BKP's! :)

Yeah, the Dimarzio YJM is a low output pickup, Yngwie just slams the Marshall's input with the DOD overdrive. The BKP Trilogy Suite is higher output.

Ahh I see, The middle pickup is now sorted thanks!! :D Just the bridge and the neck pickup to go....

A bit off topic, but I wonder if DiMarzio will stop making the YJM now that Yngwie has switched to Seymour Duncan?

Yeah, it'll be the HS-4 i think.

Aye, they're continuing to make it under the HS-4 pick up monicker

I wouldn't call the Holy Diver bright, it's a got more a focus on mids and bass I'd say.

That's handy to know. I'm still not sure which to go for. I'm pretty sure i'd like both sets. The other thing is, are the Rebel Yell's likely to put out enough low end to offset the Basswoods lack of density. I guess I could request a tad more low end on the ordering page. Any ideas?
