Certainly do! Deirdre Cartwright, Henry Thomas and Geoff Nicholls! I watched it every week! :D
(Or did you mean the Synthaxe?)
-
Yes, I was also a regular viewer. In fact, it may have sown the seed of trying to get my own band together, which one year latter, I did :)
-
Never watched it that much, but what I saw was great.
-
Ah... Deirdre, I remember her :D
Seeing that hair again is a bit of shock though...
-
haha, that was just BAD
I remember one episode where Deirdre spent 30 seconds demonstrating the blues scale in A then cut to a clip of BB King. So that's your blues lesson right there.

I wonder how much MIDI tracking has improved since then... certainly the pickup looks the same!
-
I remember watching Rock School years back. I does look dated. I thought that Synth Axe tracked ok when AH was playing it.
The Axon unit I use with the Ghost MIDI pickup is very good. You have to adapt you technique according to what sound your using. I can have 'String Split' zones on mine, for instance over the bridge pickup area can be one voice, the middle another and at the neck pickup another. Or having the low E on one voice and the next 5 on another. Ect. ect.

One big disadvantage I can see about the synth axe, except for how impractical it looks. Is not having the connection between the picking strings and fretting strings. Unless you're well on it, it would sound like mess.

it does look fine, but you never know how many goes they had at it..
suppose the technology is all in the decoding unit, good to know your axon works well. i often toy with the idea of getting a midi'd up guitar

good point gwEm the processing units would be dog sh!t by today's standards. I'm still getting my new Mac sorted as I don't have all the goodies yet. But the plan is to have it playing the sounds that came with Native Instruments Komplete 6. I will have to get a small program to go run between the Axon and the NI package to get the same instrument on all 6 strings, instead of loading one for each string. Then hopefully I'll be able put my own ideas together. Logic 9 is inredible compared to Cubase 5.1 VST. Well it would be wouldn't it!
I've used the Axon in the studio quite a bit and it's great fun. I had a Sitar sound on a jam we were doing once using some Indian Pentatonics. Curry house blues! the Flute and Pic' sounds are good but the rest do have their limitations. It's because of the decoding and low latency abilities that people buy them. Once you have a good midi set up you can play anything with a midi in.
