Title: A darker nailbomb ? (more middy/hi mid 498t )
Post by: fr33man1 on May 03, 2010, 07:19:28 AM
Hi there. I got to solder around on my les paul and found out the nailbomb suits her perfectly. Tight on downtuning, clear, percussive, loud and good push. also soft cleans thanks to the a5 magnet.

noy my baritone is bridge pickup less. The nbomb was a bit bright in there. It was getting ok as i was getting lower tuned but still bright in drop C/B.

its a bubinga body with maple neck and ebony board so pretty bright and sharp. Holy diver to fatten things up ? Or a crawler ?

EDIT : I soldered my 498t lying there and it apperead to sound good. Meaning in a good way but its a tad dull and fat, lacks some cut. I like it tightness and open sounding, less metal edge than the nailbomb, lets the amp flow through and the sound is dynamic.

Is the diver middier and maybe a bit brighter ? And also more percussive and better bass reponse ?

The Nailbomb has a certain metal edge to it, that can clash with some guitars. I've heard it first hand in two guitars (strats). Other works really really well, but the other had the spike you seem to be experiencing too. I replaced the Nailbomb with the Holydiver, and it's really good  8)

The Diver is middier and doesn't have that 'edge' I mentioned. It's not muddy though, nor is it tame. 'Vintage tone with contemporary power and edge'.

I have a Holy Diver in my baritone and it works well. Mine is mahagony body, set maple neck with rosewood fingerboard. Big sound, very nice top end.

took out the iron solder again so take a look above ;). Need some confirmations before ordering.

Oh and i dont mean 498t owns a bkp eh  :P, just saying its ballpark please me. but i'd like bkp flavoured with more clarity and better balance of frequencies ;).
