Ok, I found this linked on another forum - is there anything better than a hot lass who can really play, check it out...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=umu6FxEcpS0
-
We've "done" Orianthi on the forum before, surely?
-
You cant "do" orianthi too many times though, surely?
-

Agreed, though this clip is :?
-
You know who played most of the guitars on her last album bar the solos. PhillyQ's favourite you tube star...

Proves shredding is for girls :D

Hope her voice is better than her guitar playing

So who took the really talented guitarist that santana wants to pass the torch on to and made her into an avril levigne-alike with the guitar skillz a footnote?

prefer this girl. Much more interesting than Orianthi.

Who is Philly's favourite youtube star?

This goon.

Ah. I wondered if it might be Mr Excitement.
-
Oh yes.
-
I think Orianthi is shitee (or at least her lead playing on the MJ stuff is). She is hot though.
-
she sounds like Emille De Ravin of Lost..hell of a hooter as well.
and am I the only one who thought the playing wasn't that great?
-
she's a baby, surely south of 20yrs, anyone who can even approximate convincingly 'beat it' without backing
is' very good,' at any age .i'd like to show her my whammy bar technique, just for jolly!
-
actually watched the vid now. all you guys saying she sucks, let's see your attempt. i thought that was great. we need more girls/women playing guitar, they're already discouraged enough, yet any time an actual kickass female player does show up, she gets slagged off. :?
-
I don't think they're discouraged at all, I think that's a myth. More likely a case of being naturally predisposed to songwriting or other direct routes to the emotional expression rather than the A-Typical male autistic shredder.
Now, this is a good female guitarist http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yVThmL2u1Ig 8)

Yeah. Its perfectly good playing. Not jaw dropping, but she can play. The somewhat sad thing is, half this board can probably play as well as her, loads of male guitarists play as well or better, and that shes a woman and can play well is seen as somehow remarkable, which statistically it is, but its also condescending; so what that shes a woman and can play; the only remarkable thing about that is that for whatever reason, few women choose to really go for it guitar playing wise; most just learn a few chords so they can sing to them. Thats fine, maybe theres some difference in the wiring of genders brain that makes a predisposition or inclination in women away from guitar playing, so what, who cares? They CAN if they have a good go at it, mayhaps most just dont want to.
Her looks seem to polarise people too much - they either see a hot bird that can handle a guitar and go nuts over it, or see a hot bird thats in the grande scheme an unremarkable guitarist and slag her off for not being utterly incredible.
-
i disagree with that. look at violin virtuosos. almost all female. it's certainly not that they can't do it, or don't want to do it. it's also worth pointing out that there's a much bigger market for female singer-songwriter types than there is for guitar virtuosos (there's not a gigantic market for males either, but it's a lot bigger than there is for females)- i'm sure a lot might feel pushed towards it (much like the old advice in schools, "that's a good job for a girl"). self-fulfilling prophecy, behavioural confirmation, stereotype threat and all that.
EDIT: and don't even start me on how a lot of girls/women get treated if they walk into a guitar shop.
-
She is playing the cards she has been dealt. She is pretty, and does her most to look hot. She can play and does it under pressure in front of people. Add the fact that most shred head concerts are total sausage fests.... no women at all.... To have a hot chic even attempting to shred is heaven with a guitar strapped on... She is opening more doors for other women to get up and play some metal. Who can't like that? I am for anything that will advance the cause of metal, in particular normal E tuned playing and great riffing / leads. Can't really get excited too much about droning drop tuned jams that don't even put in a good riff. Not all are like that but too many are. I saw Gogiera play before Lamb of God, they were total garbled rubbish drop tuned into oblivion. Lamb of God was before Metallica. They were good. Metallica came on and just stomped it. Guitar shred and massive riffing. Some little hot metal bird was probably getting inspired ....
-
I think that's pretty good to be honest, standing in front of an audience in such close proximity too. And yeah, she's not looking too bad at all... 8)

Perhaps, but the violin is very much unlike the guitar musically, tonally and culturally. I'm suggesting that the guitar is unapealing for *some* reason, I dont know what - perhaps that its innately more aggressive with delta function note attack and exponential decay, perhaps its the culturally prevelant male-dominated noisy testosterone laced nature of much of the music, perhaps its something else, perhaps its nothing to do with the instrument itself or the music and its just that most women prefer something else more - its not a can or cant game, its a like more or less and what you devote yourself to more.
Certainly I dont contest in the least that women can play musical instruments just as well as men, and thats sorta parta my point - its condescending that the poor lass is thought of as 'hot woman guitarist' not 'guitarist'.
-
yeah, wouldn't mind trading a few licks with her
what?
-
Well since you asked Dave, heres my attempt at that solo from about a year ago, I don't do it properly because my hands cant stretch for the big shreddy bit and I'm not much of a shredder anyway :P

tom , that's a v.good show too, pull that off in a club with a good tone and vols and everyone will be cheering.wish i
could do it :(.i think we've got too used to the guitar uberfreaks like vai which can be a little disheartening if used
as a benchmark.good playin' is good playin'

ah ok, sure. EDIT: i wonder how much of it though is that women think it's too aggressive and masculine, or that they're told it's too aggressive and masculine?
that was a good shot at it too, tom :)

I dunno, but if I told most of the women I know that playing guitar is too aggressive and masculine for them, they'd be playing cannibal corpse riffs 6 months later to prove me wrong

I think that it's simpler than that. Playing guitar - especially playing guitar at a high technical level - is really quite a trainspotterish activity. And women, on average, are a lot less trainspotterish than men.
-
i just don't buy that. i know plenty of women who are really into stuff, and also there's the whole fact that, in general, women get the short end of the stick (whether clearing up, cooking, etc) so they have less time and energy to be trainspotterish.
plus, playing guitar at a high level is no different from playing violin at a high level.
your friends must be feminists, mark. i know of plenty of women who would be the opposite.
-

True, but if you watch something like Young Musician of the Year those girls are uber-geeks!
-

Yeah, me too, but you can't argue against the overwhelming majority of "geeks" into any particular thing being men. Be it any particular music genre, film, television, comics, books, art, cooking, wine etc etc
Men have far more of a tendency to be obsessive about things than women.

hot birds not shredding it up http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DtXr0pIRSg4&feature=related much more interesting 8)

i give up
