made templates today for two new projects - the first outings for two new models - the tele-like 'holly' and a lapsteel based on my 'deco' designs
the holly will most likely be an esquire version. im thinking baby blue with white binding. but it might change. body's alder, neck maple/rosewood (shock horror!!!)

lapsteel has rippled sycamore core with limba/walnut sides and walnut board (will have maple 'frets' and markers)

-
very nice :D
-
Love the curves 8)
-
alder blank is gluing up now.
bit of work on the lapsteel. the wings need thicknessing (a LOT!!!) but this is what it will look like. with a board. and a walnut tailpiece. obviously.

Really cool both, but not sure about the pickguard and control plate on teleish one, but as is goind solid color, may be alright
-
nothing too exciting. didnt have much time today so just got holly body cut out

lapsteel sides have been thinned down to size. but it doesnt look any different to the last pic so theres not much point in another
holly has binding (not trimmed yet), pickguard cut, neck pocket, neck (no pic yet) and control cavity cut.

Looking nice!
-
I'm curious to see how the headstock comes out on the teleish one - how is it going to be finished?
-
the face will be the same colour as the body, with the carved curvy bit being exposed maple. i think im gonna carve it tomorrow so it will be clearer to see how it will be then
-
Looking forward to it. The other round might look good, too, but that doesn't sound like an easy job...

i am really liking these - the tele variation is really nice and i reckon the 6 inline headstock carve works better than the 3-a side
-
That's a really elegant variation on the tele design. I usually only like the classic Fender shapes but that's really a lovely bit of design right there. I wouldn't be surprised if a major manufacturer nicks that headstock, get it trademarked!
-
I agree with the positive comments above- a great looking guitar and an original take on a classic design.
-
Another positive reaction from me - you've done a really great job of taking the Tele and making it fit with your own design style. Nice work! :D

+1 I'd like one of these, Esquire...
-
i agree with everyone else, it looks awesome. i really like your designs, they're forward-looking but classy/classic at the same time.
-
thanks guys!
lapsteel mockup. doesnt have the 'frets' in yet

and someone on pg asked how i got the join between the core and the wings so good. well, i cheated.

not too much difference but it has a fretboard now woo
(http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h284/hooglebug/holly/08.jpg)
not too much difference here either but its now got 'frets' and a bit of shaping to the curvy bits

That one reminds me of the Eastman 'Pagelli' :

ivory inlay

-
just brushed a bit on to see what the colour would be like. obviously will look better sprayed with primer underneath and clear on top
(http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h284/hooglebug/holly/SAM_0980.jpg)
-
nothing terribly exciting just the lapsteel with all its bits on. nothing glued or sanded or anything hence it still looking rough as bugger
(http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h284/hooglebug/lapsteel/08.jpg)
-
It looks cool!
-
when its hardened off tomorrow it needs a bit of scr@ping to get the lines clean but other than that its not bad
(http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h284/hooglebug/holly/13.jpg)
obviously binding needs scr@ping clean but again, almost ready for clear
(http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h284/hooglebug/holly/SAM_0991.jpg)

nice :D

:D

well after many many paint problems its getting there again. still waiting for the body to cure a bit more but the headstocks done. no point having a full pic yet as the boards still taped up waiting for frets to be done.
as the paint was kinda doing it itself anyway, i thought id give it a checked old nitro look.
and this is the back - the other half of my £5 find. not a bad neck for £2.50

Very nice! Not sure why you finished such beautifull wood! But looks cool!
-

Lovely! A really nice variation on a classic. Love the colour-matched headstock too.
-
Modern but classy! Pure win!
-
Yeah, I like that a lot.
-
I like it too- very tastefully done.
